Neven Basic tops category 11 for the lucky starts
After earning the 2011 Japan Golf Tour card three weeks ago, Neven Basic won the fourth and final round of the PGA Tour of Australasia Q-school with a 279 and grabbed starts in all PGA Tours of the Australasia events yesterday.
One place under Basic, Paul Spargo represented the South Australian front and ended his qualifying race on the second place. The leader led Spargo with a difference of four strokes at the event while stood 5 strokes ahead of Daniel
Beckmann.
Beckmann therefore held third place on the leaderboard and finished one notch lower than his 2009 Australian Amateur Championship play.
Neven Basic, the thirty-two year old golfer, carded a nine-under for his score card and managed to enter category 11 in contention for the start. The earlier stated group included the first ten positions from the Q-School leader
board and witnessed Basic at the top.
The golfer from New South Welshman managed to grab the status after targeting the medallist title at the Final Stage of the school and thus ended the recent spell on a high note.
With Basic ruling the Peninsula Country Golf Club, the play at Victoria will be furthering 30% of the top players to the concluding leg of the One Asia Q-school whose final stage is scheduled from the 11th of January
in China.
Apart from Neven Basic topping the group, Category 11 includes the likes of Peter Nolan, Kurt Carlson, Brad Shilton, Henry Epstein, Brendan Smith, Marcus Cain and Tony McNaughton. The earlier stated list will also be aiming for
an entry into the One Asia Tour events through their status at the Australasian Tour.
With the top ten earning the category 11 status, players till the 40th position made it into the Category 13 and were awarded with the limited starts for the PGA Tour of Australasia events.
The earlier stated group includes golfers like Jordan Sherrat who earned a 4th place finish at the Australian Open, Matt Jager who grabbed the title of the Australian and New Zealand Amateur Championship and Andrew Tampion,
who is well-known for his appearance at the 2010 European Tour.
Further down the leader board, those who made it through the cut embraced category 20 and thus earned starts in the Pro-Ams along with a few Tier Two events.
