The Borussia Dortmund defender claimed that the opposition were impressive in the semi-final clash of the DFB-Pokal.
The reigning German champions progressed to the final of the German Cup as they downed 2.Bundesliga side Greuther Furth in the semi-final. Ilkay Gundogan scored the only goal of the match in the dying moments of extra-time to secure
a berth in the final of the competition.
Subotic claimed that the second division side played some fantastic football and defended brilliantly to put pressure on Dortmund. The player insisted that the opposition was highly motivated throughout the course of 90 minutes
and admitted that it would have been a sad moment to concede a goal in the dying moments of the match.
The Serbian international is now aiming to gun down Bayern Munich in the final of the competition to claim the club’s first Cup win since 1989.
“The Fürther were like ticks you can´t shake off, very stubborn. It was a very difficult game against a hard-running and highly motivated side. The emotions that you feel are almost indescribable. Those are the intoxicating moments
in a footballer’s life, but they are, of course, very bitter if they happen against you,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand Ilkay Gundogan expressed his delight on scoring the match winner, seconds away from the final whistle. The midfielder found the net to finally end the opposition’s resilience and claimed a hard fought victory
for his side.
Gundogan insisted that scoring the winner in such an important game is a fantastic feeling and he feels honoured to have played a role in the win.
“You have to experience it to know what it feels like. I only remember that Kevin had the ball, that he passed it to me and that I took control of it,” the German international concluded.
Borussia Dortmund will next face Bayern Munich in the final of the competition in May. Jupp Heynckes’ side downed Borussia Monchengladbach in the second semi-final at the Borussia Park. The visitors won 4-2 on penalties to set
