  1. since you have never been b4, the dr. will prob do the whole exam--around 15-20 minutes. he/she will dialate your eyes, check you vision, and just make sure everything is okay in general.  and actually, some ppl are not even able to wear lenses.  and if you are able to get the prescription--just let them know you are ordering online. it shouldnt be a big deal. without insurance the cost of the check-up may vary with each dr.....id say somewhere in between $100-$200 . it all depends

  2. Most places will take walk-ins, but it's best to make an appointment.  The end of summer is a busy time for eye doctors.  Let them know you are a new patient and would like an eye exam and contact lens fitting.

When you go in, the doctor will probably ask why you are there.  Just say "I would like to order some special fx lenses online, so I need a fitting and a prescription."  Maybe take some information on the lenses to give the doctor a better idea of what exactly you are ordering.

The doctor will test your vision before he or she will give you a prescription, but if you have perfect eyesight, it should be quick.  He or she will also take some measurements for determining the size of the contacts you'll need.

Usually they will leave it up to you if you would like to be dilated.  If you have never had an eye exam, I would really recommend it.  It is the only way for them to know what is going on in the back of your eye, where it is possible to have problems with no symptoms.

The doctor or an optician should teach you how to insert and remove lenses and how to care for them and store them.  Once you have received your lenses, the doctor should have you back, so he or she can look at them on your eyes.  (This is the process for regular contacts.)

The price will depend on where you go and what your insurance covers.  If you are concerned about money, I would do some comparisons by calling around and asking for the price of an eye exam and contact lens fitting.

    Hope that helps.  Good luck!
