  1. Avoid laminated menus.... Any place where management is more

concerned about being able to wipe the menu clean than with its

content is unlikely to deliver gastronomic greatness.  Note that

this rule does not apply to barbecue joints....

  2. Yes, if they have got laminated menu-es then the standards of hygiene tend to be lower than more upmarket eateries.  Have to say though as a top tip, never complain about the food unless you really have to unless it is completely necessary until you have eaten every course of the meal, the horror stories of temperamental chefs I have heard would make your hair curl

  3. The only reason why the resturant I used to work at had laminated menus, because you could wipe them down if a little kid decided to chew on them, or someone accidently split their drink/food on it.

  4. This question interested me so I decided to do some searching. The only thing I could find is about a book that a man named Pete McCarthy wrote called McCarthy's Bar: A Journey of Discovery in Ireland in which he apparently gives a set of rules for travelers. "Never eat in a restaurant with laminated menus" was given as "McCarthy's seventh rule of travel but as to why? After about 15 minutes of trying to find the answer I still have no clue lol. If you want to do some searching of your own maybe this will give you a good head start but sorry I couldn't answer your question....very interesting though.

  5. i don't what u r talking about . even if the menus r laminated it doesn't matter all that matters is the food u eat . after all u r going to eat the food not the laminated menu .

  6. I never heard of it. Most places have laminated menus. Paper ones get wet and yucky!

  7. I never heard of that. Let me know when you find the answer. Thanks

  8. people think that they r kinda sleezy, but some of the best little places i've eaten in have been some diners and places that look like holes in the walls, but  have laminted menus and great food.

  9. Never eat in a restaurant that has dirty toilets, but i never heard of the laminated one, sorry

but ya got me interested so its gota be, Good kitchens change their menus regularly, leaving no time for lamination. if a supplier tells a restaurant about particularly fine seasonal produce, they should take advantage of it and change the menu. A laminated menu smacks of permanency...

  10. i never heard of anything like that, good question i want to know too because most little restaurant have laminated menus. I don't think it matters though because what if you had a restaurant and you made a menu and laminated the menu - whats wrong with that? nothings wrong with that!! so i'll check back for more of the answers...

  11. A laminated menu, implies it is a low class joint.  Think about it.....why would you NEED to laminate the MENU's?

They only get food on them, if it's the sort of joint.....that---

A.) leaves them on the table, as decoration or something, while the food is being served.......

    B) It's the sort of joint where people are so unruly, that food gets slopped onto menu;s..........

and C.)   a laminated Menu, is one that hasn't been CHANGED in forever, probably.....offering the same stuff............day in and day out........which can only produce laziness and sloppiness in the ktichen for bored "chefs".

Classy joints will have menus printed on paper, (in nice  plastic,  or leather holders), that are replaced frequently, with new items, or specials. and the like.

It's probably a general warning to stay out of low class joints and aim for finer dining experiences, that's all.
