Ive been told it will only cost me a £1 off-peak, but I also been told that if u dont 'beep' yourself out again it will take around £15 penelty charge from your card.. Does this mean I really need to top my card up by £15 to make it useable for just 3 stops...Please help. Confusion!!!

  1. Don't worry, it's easy!

Just beep it as you go through the barriers into the station, then again when you leave at the other end. I think you're right, where it's about £1 for the journey, but check on the 'fare-finder' on the link below if you want to make sure!

I only ever have £5-10 on mine at any time, it's not a problem...

  2. All you need to do is decide what zones you are travelling in.  Once you have done that, you can buy your Oyster card. Most tube stations will sell you one and explain how it works.

And no, you don't have to top it up by £15, as long as it's valid between the two zones.

  3. When using Oyster to pay as you go for any part of your Tube  journey you need to touch in (usually to open the barrier) at the start of your journey and touch out at the end of your journey. Failure to touch in and out correctly will result in you paying a maximum cash fare.

The touch to open the barrier counts as your touch in or out.

  4. Yes you must swipe in and swipe out on the tube.  Otherwise you will be charged the max fare, which I think is about £4.00 instead of the much cheaper £1 for your usual journey.

Not sure about the penalty charge of £15.

Swipe in - press your card on the Yellow reader

Thankfully, as a London Pensioner, I have the Freedom Pass, so without wishing to sound smug, I really don't give a fig how much it costs.

  5. who told you that?!

Get an oyster at any tube station, pay a refundable deposit of £3 and add some money. a one way  to where you are going might cost you £1 but you didn't specify. you need to touch on the yellow reader as you in the tube and on your way out at your destination. If youdon't you will a £4 charge each way
