The Toffees got their 2012/13 campaign off to a flyer, capturing wins against Manchester United and Aston Villa in their first two games.
It marked the first time since 2007 that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes’ men have claimed wins in their first two games of the season. Last time they achieved the feat, they went on to finish the league at the fifth place, and consequently won a place in the Europa League.
Their sublime start this season is in sharp contrast with their reputation of being slow starters. The Toffees are renowned for their struggles in the season’s preamble.
However, at the moment, the situation presents a totally different reading, as the men in blue are currently one of the hottest teams in the Premier League, based on their performances over the last couple of months.
Their win against the Villans on Saturday stretched their unbeaten run in the league to eleven games.
Taking into consideration their scintillating form, and the current depth in the squad, Neville insisted that his side have got what it takes to secure a place in European competitions, but feels that the fitness of the star players will be the key, if they
are to achieve their goals.
The English International told the reporters in an interview, “If we can keep everyone fit we can be challenging for European honours. That’s what we want, European football – Champions League or Europa League we’re not bothered.”
“After 10 games, we’ll know better where we are. But confidence is high; we’re playing with bags of energy.”
The 35-year old also revealed that the atmosphere in the dressing room was more relaxed than last term at the same juncture, and attributed the calmness to the club’s policy of signing the players early.
“This time last season, the club was in a state of real nervousness, nervousness from the fans, from everybody really… We were the only club in the Premier League who hadn’t bought anyone and with five or six days to go that does create nervousness,” he
added.
