New 3G iPhone in US was launched for $199 and $299, but in India the same cost more than $700 & $800 Why?

Most phones here in the US cost a little less because we are bound by a contract with a wireless provider. In other countries, most phones come unlocked because they have "pre-paid" accounts and therefore, no need to stick to one main wireless provider. They usually just need to purchase a pre-paid sim card and ta-da... they're connected. No contracts.

I'm guessing but I'd say India with its very talented software class has high import taxes for electronics and software - they would rather use that talent pool to create Indian made products.

India money and US money are different.

In India you get payed more but in US you don't because most of the stuff are cheap
