  1. 5 gallons is small for more than 1 fish. I would stick with 1 betta, or 1 Fiddler Crab (may not be fish but sure are interesting to watch). With a tank size that small your possibilities are slim. Research on the net about amount of fish that can be housed in a 5 gallon, research the fish and find out if it will out-grow the tank.

  2. a betta

  3. to the guy above i dont recommend putting in a male betta. Because of their long fins other fish my nip on it.

  4. well if you have a proper filter and heater, you can put small schooling or shoaling fish... one of the following species would be okay, remember that you have to do at least a 15% water change every week with a small gravel vacuum ....

    3 Neon Tetras

    3 Chery Barbs

    3 Pygmy Cories

3 Pygmy Gouramis (10 gallons would be better)

Dwarf Puffers (3 at the most)

    3 White Cloud Minnows

Female Bettas (3 at the most)

    1 Male Betta

    3 Zebra or Leopard danios

  5. well options options options:

    1. 1 molly and 2 platty

    2. 2 molly and 1 platty

    3. 3 mollies (get all males or all females, store worker can help you with that)

    4. 3 platies (get all males or all females, store worker can help you with that)

    5. schooling fish

        schooling fish:

    1. neon tetras (will look very pretty in the tank)

    2. serpae tetras (very cool i have some)

    3. black phantom tetra

    to brighten up your aquarium:

    1. get 3 colorful FEMALE bettas! i personally would do that SAVE THEM from their horrible life they have in those tiny tubs! LOL!

and lots more! go to aquariumfish.net

    best wishes and best fishes!

  6. I have had the following combinations at one time or another in my five gallon tanks

5 white clouds and 1 male betta and 1 ghost shrimp

    or

    4 (all male) guppies {a female guppy will quicky over populate a tank that size}

    or

5 brass tetras and a blue shrimp

    or

3 dwarf sunset platys and 3 neon tetras

    or

    5 Harlequin Rasbora

    or

3 harlequin rasbora and 3 red barred microdanio

    or

5 galaxy rasbora (note, they are very timid fish, I never saw mine, they never came above the plant leaves)

    Or.....

    1 very lucky male betta

As long as you have a good filter (i.e. biowheel or aquaclear) and lots of plants and do frequent water changes, you have a little wiggle room with that "inch per galllon" rule.

Good Luck - my five gallon tanks have usually been my favorite
