I ordered a 63" Samsung Plasma (FP-T6374) from newegg.com which was delivered yesterday.Soon after I set it up and turned it on 2 thin black lines going half way down the screen appeared. Is this a defective HDTV? Can it be fixed? I did call Samsung and a local repair shop called me soon after to get info and said he was going order parts.I'm just wondering if this is a common problem with these sets.

  1. this means that this is the channel for a video player

  2. Make sure the broadacast your getting is in High Definition. Some times HD stations broadcast Standard Def which then can cause black bars to appear.

Set the cable box to stretch or widescreen to eliminate the bars.

    Hope this helps. :)

  3. I'm sure they asked you exactly where they are -- on top/bottom.  They ordered the a-bus circuit boards.  These are the circuit boards that are the interface between the plasma panel and the other components.  If these boards do not fix it then the panel itself is defective.  Sometimes these units get a bad connection at this interface from the bouncing at shipping.  Ordering and bringing these parts would eliminate and extra attempt to determine the exact fault as the tech would have to perform nearly as much work reseating the ribbon cables on these connectors as it would take to replace them.  I pray for the tech that you dont have it mounted on the wall.  If they/we are selling 63" plasmas I think it's time for me to retire because I don't think I can even lift one end of a 63"--anymore
