This new rule sucks so much. Some of the umps call are so stupid. The pies get pinned so much but lucky for the little guns like Thomas, Pendlebury, Goldsack, Clarke, Cox and all the other one that can turn the game around big what do you think???

  1. I'M yet to speak to a football lover that isn't p!$$ed off with the new hands in the back rule and the way the AFL is destroying what should be the best game in the world,i mean fairdinkum what is the point of changing the rules every year? there is an old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it-maybe the AFL should have used this as its motto about 15 years ago,its a shame they don't listen to the people that matter (THE FANS) we know what sort of game we want to watch, pitty the AFL has no idea.

  2. Yeah I don't like it. I mean it is goodthat the AFL is trying to clear up all the grey spots but seriously. It should be if the player puts their hands in the back and pushes TO ADVANTAGE!! Some players just use the player to steady themselves or to stop the player in front pushing back on them.

  3. the hands in the back rule is a load of bull. it has brang our game into disrepute and taken out any challenge for a backliner to gte the ball from a one on one contest without him putting his hands int eh back to get the ball. and the umpires do not have a lcue what they are doing they pay it non stop one week i.e st.kilda vs collingwood round 14 and dont pay it at all in other weeks the rule is the worst rule the afl has ever brought in i believe that netball and basketball has more contact then our beloved footy

  4. IT SUX, The AFL and the rules committee have no passion and no feel of the game.

Its like getting netball umpires to umpire AFL footy.Come on, get off the grass umps and as for the rules committee, they all should all be sacked.

Why change the rules every year? its bloody riduculous.

  5. It's not the umpire's fault, as it is difficult to always see hands touch somebody's back, depending on where the umpire stands.

I think the hands in the back rule is unnecessary. In many situations it also spoils the game.

This is what made me mad: Richo kicked for goal in the dying moments of the dreamtime game when he was penalised for supposedly pushing one in the back, resulting in a win for Essendon.

    Now that is appalling.

    Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Don't blame the umps blame the rules commitee. Why was the rule brought in for?

  7. Its called Aussie rules, but how if I am allowed to say without being charged on trial by computer, the way  AFL rule the game is a JOKE.   To get a job in the administration, you probably need a degree in something, but in reality, even  Mickey Mouse, would have enough COMMON SENSE to realise, that the in the back rule is simply flawed, and totally out of wack with basic human reflex bio mechanic's,or whatever the fancy name for it is . The pathetic side to the AFL is that those who attract the paying public to games "the Players"can be suspended for  frivilous misdemeanors on  trial by video, (eg : Rocca,& Lloyd ) but when a player like Collingwood's Thomas snaps a goal which  many experts, commentators, and members of the public could find no reason for it being ruled " out of play ", it puts the GAME in disrepute, by way of inept decision making.   If the same scenario was to, or in future cost's a team victory, in a Grand Final.    Seriously,...if its good enough for the AFL to suspend players on trial by video it HAS to be good enough for them to overturn   frivolous WRONG decisions that ultimately could cost a club  its season !

  8. i think it is a load of bull

  9. the afl is a joke as sam on the footy show said its the only sport in the world that changes its rules every year

  10. It gives Mickey Malthouse something else to whinge about.

  11. I think that the hands in the back rule, has really made the game BORING! How are you meant to contest the ball when you cant even attempt to push of your opponent, when they are holding you out of the contest.  Why dont we start calling it a girl sport. AFL Football isnt what it use to be and if they keep trying to make it non contact, we'll have to start calling it netball.

I do agree that its not the umpires fault for this rediculous rule, but if they would only be consistant in their calls. If you call one for a push in the back, well you really do need to call all the other footballers out there as well.

Its not just Collingwood who are getting pinned, if you watch its most teams. I know some get away with it, but they know how to get away with it.

  12. I am an Umpire (in local junior comps in QLD) and I will say now that everyone of us umpires in our local association do not like the rule. Even we think that the AFL Rules Commettie was a little drunk when they made this stupid rule up.

But there is a way for a player to not use his hands into another players back. He is allowed to use his forearm to keep his ground, but once he pushes his forearm forward into an opponets back, it is a free kick.

It is stupid I know.....the Players hate it, the Spectators hate it, the Commantators hate it and even some umpires hate it themselves.

Dont forget, we dont make the rules. There is a special AFL Rules commetie who makes all this c**p up!

  13. Its not just collingwood who get pinned by that new rule, it's every club. Thats why ALL the players aren't happy with it. The rule itself, just had not been tested in the pre season, and that is where all new rules are generally tested to see if they work or not,  and because it wasn't tested no one was used to it when it came in. My belief is ..... if they had of trialled it in the nab cup it wouldn't be part of the game.

At the end of every season they review things and that specific rule SHOULD be the first thing they look at.

  14. It's rather dodgy, an overreaction to people getting injured in air.

  15. Yeah I watched Saturdays game and you guys were flogged by the umpires, especially in the 3rd quarter. Did well to come back & win, Pies are quality this year. Hands in back rule is soft, and they are not consistent!! I am a Tigers fan and Richo got pinged a few weeks ago, but Gehrig got away with an identical thing on Sat. That is so frustrating!
