New ASUS PRO50Z laptop with

New ASUS PRO50Z laptop with Vista , trying to install new drivers for Canon PIXMA ip4500 printer. Have installed new drivers from Canon website, plugged in printer to USB port and turned on printer. Computer shows that installation was successful and printer makes appropriate noises to indicate it is working and computer knows it's connected. Tried to print test page but nothing happens. Error message says "An error has occurred when printing the following print job. Click Cancel to stop printing." Printer works on mate's Vista laptop and on my old XP laptop. Have now spent five days trying everything but cannot fix the problem. Please help.
