New Aquarium Question?

I am looking to start an aquarium. A 10-30 gallon tank, with freshwater fish that won't get too huge, but aren't so small you can barely see them. What are some good combinations of fish? And is it better to spend $100+ on the tank at the Pet Store, or is it better to get it off of Ebay or Walmart or something?

  1. i realy like danios they look cool

    maby try a bristlenose pleco

  2. Two Mollies and a Platy. These are also schooling fish. I would say the Gold Mollies are very colorful. A group of 6 will eventually all grow to be larger than 3.5" long and need an aquarium with at least 20 gallons of water, and an even bigger aquarium is better for Mollies. Click  here and read about Mollies. Platies are very colorful schooling fish that can grow to be about 2" long, sometimes bigger, and a group of 6 will eventually require a 15 gallon aquarium.

    3 fresh water angelfish

    2clownloach

My favorite combo of fish for a 10 G. is

    -A dwarf gourami

-6 of the same species of tetra

    -2 corydoras catfish

You could use natural gravel with a piece of driftwood. Then anchor some java moss to the driftwood. You could also plant some micro sword and some java fern.

    1 male dwarf gourami

    6 dwarf corydoras

6 celestial pearl danios (also known as the galaxy rasbora)

    3 fresh water angelfish

    3 clown loach

    2 mollies

  3. ok... on ebay you could get anything. It could say nice condition and be all scratched up. But when you buy from a pet store your can make sure that what you are getting isnt used and you get a warentee. Uhm... depends on whether u want a tropical community or a semi aggresive or whatever.... for a community aquarium i suggest things like ghost catfish, tetras, dwarf gourami's and others...

  4. I would get a new tank so that way you don't have to worry as much about the seams failing and if they do fail you will get a new tank.

I would go with the largest tank you can to get the most options of fish combinations.

I would pick a theme like South American and pick fish that come from this region. Here is an example:

    1 center piece fish - 1 angel

2 schools- 6 Lemon Tetras, 6 red phantom tetras

1 bottom dweller - 6 Corie cats (I like the julie, spotted, or panda)

Research fish you want for compatibility and choose from there.

Its always fun stocking a fish tank :)

  5. I would get one from a pet store because the ones off eBay could have had diseased fish in them and the parasites could have gone dormant and still live in them and if that happens all your fish will get that disease. as for fish if you don't want a ton of color you could get angelfish and black skirts. but if you want lots of color go with fancy guppies and mollies. [be careful with those though! they have around 30 fry a month] they are live bearers. you can also get glow fish which are both colorful and do not reproduce so rapidly. but the bad side is they are extremely expensive!

  6. mollies are interesting fish that don't get to big. Gourami are also nice and only get a max of 4 inches and come in different colors. if it was me i would get the tank and supplies at a pet store. you never know what you might end up with on ebay and walmart just doesn't care enough if you have a problem.

  7. Doesn't really matter where you buy it - but the cost will vary depending on the size you choose.

  8. Fish - Freshwater

    African Cichlids  African Dwarf Frog

    Arowana  Barb

    Betta  Blue Crayfish

    Catfish  Chinese Algae Eater

    Cichlids  Danios

    Discus  Fantail Goldfish

    Freshwater Angelfish  Freshwater Bottom Fish

    Freshwater Compatibility  Freshwater Crabs

    Freshwater Eels  Freshwater Egglayers

    Freshwater Invertebrates  Freshwater Livebearers

    Goldfish  Gourami

    Guppy  Knifefish

    Koi  Loaches

    Lobster (Cobalt and Black)  Mollies

    Mosquito Fish  Platys

    Plecostomus  Rainbow Fish

    Shark  Swordtails

    Tetra (Community)  Tetra (Semi-aggressive)

its better to get it at a pet store cuz walmart washes them with soap and water and that will kill them but petstores wash it with 1% bleach.
