Question:

New Astigmatisim Correction?

by  |  earlier

I have some double vision around certain objects. My teeth in the mirror, traffic lights, etc.

My current glasses script is: OD: -2.00 +0.50 Axis- 45,OS: -2.25 +0.75 Axis- 85.

My new script is: OD: -1.50 -0.25 Axis- 143,OS: -2.00 -0.50 Axis- 157

My questions are- has my script increased? And will the higher AXIS numbers help some of my "ghosting" issues I believe may be the symptom of astigmatisim?

  1. Your old script was written by an Opthalmologist and the new one by an Optometrist...so we have to convert the 1st one to the - cylinder form to see a real comparison.

    Current Rx becomes...

    OD - 1.50 - 0.50 X 135

    OS --1.50 - 0.75 X 175

    New Rx...

    OD -1.50 -0.25 X143

    OS -2.00 -0.50 X 157

So, the cylinder...( the astigmatism correction) which is the second number in the script has decreased by 0.25 in both eyes.

But the -2.00, the myopia correction has increased by 0.50 in the left eye.

The axis is simply the direction that the cylinder correction is applied in your lenses...higher or lower axis makes no difference in the power, only where that power is placed.

So there is 18 degrees difference on the left eye now in the difference of where that correction will be placed, it is quite possible that it was making a slight ghosting effect.

Changing the axis is like fine tuning an old tv ...

I would think those changes in your left eye will make a fair difference.
