New Aussie Women’s Hockey team for the 2012 Olympics
It looks like there has been a complete overhaul of the Australian Women’s hockey team as seven new players have been added to help the national squad during the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
Australia’s coach, Adam Commens who planned at having a few new players to build up some confidence in the team. During the national training camp, close to 60 players participated for a chance to show their skills off and get selected to the national side.
It looks as if Commens was impressed by some of the younger players as he selected seven to become a part of the national squad.
Commens was impressed by the young talent during the training camp. He had commented that it was difficult to make some selections as almost all of the players were extremely talented and had exceptional hockey skills.
The seven who got selected are Marnie Hudson, Jill Dwyer, Jodie Schultz, Bianca Greenshields, Kandice Olivieri, Kellie White and Jade Warrender. Although not that experienced, Jade Close has also been selected in the national squad.
The new players will definitely add some depth and pace to the front line of the Australian team. Also, the added pace with give the team an edge on the offence against many of the top tier hockey teams.
As the 2012 Olympics are right around the corner, the new young players will be given the opportunity to train hard and compete in a few tournaments to gain some much needed time on the field at the International level. The coach understands the importance
of building up some confidence in the young players before the Olympics begin. Commens has organised for his young team to face the World’s Number one Argentina. This will give the squad a good opportunity to compete against the top and work out strategies
and field positions.
Commens said, “There is only 18 months left until the London Olympics so we need to work quickly and one way to do that is to expose our players against quality teams as often as possible.”
Renee Trost has been selected to be a part of the Australian team. She has a good amount of experience and will be an added bonus to help achieve the perfect balance between the experienced players with the younger ones.
The Australian is confident of putting in a good performance in their matches before the 2012 London Olympics. The ultimate goal for the team is of course grabbing a gold medal for their country at the grandest stage of them all, the Olympics. However, to
get there, the team will be hoping to work hard and bring up their competitiveness on the field.
