New Barca President Rosell keen on Fabregas deal
There is a new man in command at Camp Nou and his first few statements has made it clear that he is not going to back down on the Arsenal skipper, Cesc Fabregas’ demand. President Sandro Rosell told he was ready to work on a new deal with the Gunners after his predecessor Joan Laporta.
After Laporta’s futile attempts to lure in the ace from North Londoners, Rosell has told that it will be one of his priorities to bring back the Spanish star to Catalans this summer.
The club has already signed Spanish world class striker David Villa from Valencia and after that they still haven’t forgotten their long departed mid-fielder. At the young age of 16 Fabregas made a change in alliance and joined Arsenal in a time were labeled as ‘the Invincibles’. The only reason he made the transfer was because the star was running constantly in the shadows of the then emerging Iniesta and Xavi along with lustrous team.
In present times though they have played good football on average and finished 3rd in the English Premier League, their last title was the FA Cup which came in 2005. On the other hand Barcelona were the victors of La Liga and finished in the final of the Champions League.
Arsenal have already turned down an offer of 30 million pounds by Barca demanding at least 60 million if they even want to think of putting the idea on the table. What gives the Spanish Giants an edge is that the player has already announced that he will be leaving for Camp Nou this summer. The 23 year old is right now participating in the FIFA World Cup in South Africa playing for Spain.
It was reckoned that both Fabregas and the Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger had similar aims but he just recently claimed that he hadn’t talked about the transfer yet with the skipper and Fabregas told that the coach just told him to concentrate on the World Cup and leave the rest to him.
Farbegas remains moot on talking about his future till the World Cup ends while Rosell is eager on having it his way before it ends.
Talking to media in his first press conference as President, Rosell stated, “When we get together, Laporta will explain at what stage the Cesc situation is at. If negotiations are advanced and the coaching staff wants the player, we will continue with the negotiations, without doubt.”
Laporta is due to stay in charge till the 1st July and Rosell believes together they can edge out or the victory. Rosell was the vice-president in Lapota’s early times but stepped down in 2005 with issue about running the club.
Now however, Rosell has taken over Camp Nou with a massive vote of confidences from all around. On his appointment he stated, “Until July 1 we can't do anything, but if they need help then we will be the first to give it. I didn't expect Laporta to hug me like that, but the important thing now is not how I felt at that moment, but to make sure there is a smooth transition.” He then added, “I have the feeling that the transfer of powers will be more peaceful and calm than I had expected.”
He won’t be taking decisions till next month but he is already planning on further improving the squad, he planned, “I have spoken to Pep and before he goes away on holiday we will speak again to try to help improve the team in these days before our mandate starts.”
The new President is also planning to bring in a new sports director to take over Txiki Begiristain, but admitted that if everyone had a similar vision then there would be no problem in getting along. Another new change the 46 year old president has in mind is to bring on a vote on Johan Cruyff’s position as the club's honorary president.
Rosell made it clear that everyone in his team will have a similar view to run the club and that would be in its benefit. He should remember that he is succeeding under a man who has made Barcelona win 7 titles in 12 years. Rosell stated on the similar objective issue, “We want to unite the whole club and move in the same direction together.” He further added that it was very important for everyone to give their opinions so they all could understand each other in a better manner.
