New Bedford High boys volleyball team defeats Quincy by 3-1 on Tuesday
Tuesday turned out to be a good day for the New Bedford High boys volleyball team as they were able to emerge as victors. The team that they were contesting with was Quincy. Bedford was able to hand out a defeat to their rivals after competing in a tough
match that went on for four long and gruelling sets. However, after the fierce fight between the two teams, Bedford was the one celebrating.
The credit of the victory goes to the relentless attack and the solid defence of the Whalers. Bedford was able to outperform Quincy in almost every aspect of the game. The Whalers were well coordinated and precise in their moves that gave Quincy a hard time
finding any weakness to target. Despite the fact that they lost the match, Quincy did not go down without putting up a fight.
By the time that the Whalers had sealed the deal on Quincy and were celebrating their well-earned win, the scoreboard summarised the scores as 25-23, 25-13, 20-25 and 25-20.
After the match had reached its close, Jeff Longo, the coach of New Bedford made the following comments in appreciation of his team, “We were down in the first game and we fought back, and we carried that momentum into the second game. We got a little comfortable
in that third game and they beat us. We came out firing in the fourth game and we got a lot of good swings.”
With their recent win, New Bedford now have a total number of six victories under their belt in regular season play. They have been able to achieve this amount after having undergone losses that tally to be three in all.
Being a team effort, every player of the Whalers put in a significant amount of effort but there were some that stood prominent among the rest. Luis Baez registered the highest amount of kills for his team. He was able to hammer down a total of 12 kills
on his opponents.
Another player that helped in keeping the scoreboard ticking was Tanner Garcia. He contributed towards his team by posting 10 kills of his own. Garcia did not just support the Whalers in the attacking part; he was also useful on the defensive side as well.
Garcia was able to make two blocks in the match. Garcia and Baez were supported by John Macaroco who was able to post four kills. Not only that, Macaroco was also able to add 12 points to the Whalers side of the scoreboard by making aces on service.
Next in line for New Bedford is a match against the Red Raiders.
