New Boat Motor Merc Optamax vs 4 stroke?

Question

Looking for pro's and cons on the Merc Optamax motor vs a 4 stroke motor.

The dealer was trying to sell the Optamax for better fuel mileage, Just looking for more info.

There are both in the marina 4 strokes leave and you don't know it> The Ops leave besides the stink & smoke they are loud >4 strokes cost more weigh more used less fuel. They both have issue> But i like the 4 st>

optimax is way better!!! we have a tracker pt 175 txw and we put a 50 elpto on it.we saw the same boat with a 75 optimax on it so we talked for a while on how alpin haus screwed us over. we learned to get the max hp capicity always, but yes OPTIMAX!!!!!!!!

Yes, the bigger Optis get better fuel economy than the 4/S EFI, however they do use DFI 2 stroke oil, so you don't really save money.  The Optis are lighter, but the biggest advantage is acceleration, that's why they are primarily used on bass and ski boats.  Use this link to get more details, and motor tests.
