New Brazilian Coach reveals his “new” squad, Ronaldinho and Maicon dropped
The Brazilian coach in the FIFA World Cup 2010, Dunga, did not really manage to impress the Brazilian Football Association as they did not really like his “defensive” techniques and stripped him off his position as they suffered a loss in the quarter final match against the Dutch.
The Brazilians started their FIFA World Cup 2010 on 15th June 2010 and showed the world why they were called the “best team in the world”. They were ranked number 1 in the FIFA World Rankings as they stepped onto the field to play their first match against the Koreans. The Koreans were trying to play defensive as they wanted the match to end in a draw. The Brazilians could not find a goal in the first half but during the second half, the inter Milan right-back, Maicon, made a run from the right hand side and took a shot on goal and scored one of the most amazing goals in the FIFA World Cup 2010. The Brazilians later finished the Koreans off by scoring a second after Robinho gave a lovely through ball to Lucio, who made no mistake in finishing it. The match, however, ended 2-1 as the Brazilians left the field with 3 points.
The other two opponents of their group stages were pretty tough as they had to face the Portuguese and the best team in Africa, Ivory Coast. Both the teams drew the match against each other. First the African Elephants were to face the South American side and they suffered a 3-1 loss while the Brazilians confirmed their spot in the pre quarter finals. Their last match was against the very amazing defensive side, Portugal. Both the teams did not manage to score a goal and the match ended in a draw as both of them managed to qualify for the pre quarter finals.
In the pre quarter finals, the Brazilians had to face their fellow South American side, Chile. Everyone predicted the result far before the match even started as the Brazilians totally smashed the Chileans. The finals score-line was 3-0, as Brazil went on to the quarter finals to face Netherlands.
Dunga, at that moment in time, was being hailed as a hero in Brazil. The match against the Dutch started off really well as the Brazilians took an early lead with the help of Robinho. The first half ended with the Dutch trailing 1-0 but in the second half the tides totally turned for the South American side. The first goal came from the head of the Brazilian player Felipe Melo who was a total menace during the match. He later suffered a red card to give the Dutch side the advantage, as Sneijder scored a second to end the game 2-1 for the Dutch side.
The Brazilians lost the match and were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2010. With players like Ronaldinho left home, the fans could expect anything. Dunga was stripped from his position and now a new manager, Mano Menezes has taken Dunga’s place. Menezes held a press conference and named his 24-man squad which he is going to play against USA in the friendly match that is going to take place next month. The coach made the announcement on Monday where the CBF president was also sitting. The CBF president said,"I wish him good luck and grant him the support of the board of directors from CBF in good and bad moments".
The full twenty four-man squad is given below:
Goalkeeper(s): Victor, Renan and Jefferson.
Defender(s): Dani Alves, Rafael, Andre Santos, Marcelo, David Luiz, Henrique, Rever and Thiago Silva.
Midfielder(s): Sandro, Ramires, Lucas, Jucilei, Ganso, Ederson, Hernanes and Carlos Eduardo.
Forward(s): Robinho, Diego Tardelli, Alexandre Pato, Andre and Neymar.
The new Brazilian coach has definitely missed out on many big players like Luis Fabiano, Adriano, Ronaldinho and Kaka but few of them are busy taking a break from the FIFA World Cup 2010 training sessions while a few like Kaka are facing fitness problems. However, the absence of Ronaldinho and the amazing right-back, Maicon, still surprises many fans.
