Question:

New Budweiser Shootout format: give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down?

Next February, the pole sitters will not race in the shootout. The Field will be set with 24 cars, with the top 6 teams from each manufacturer racing, based on owners points.

this means no Stewart, and no Newman.

What do you think?

  1. THUMBS DOWN! Newman won the Daytona 500 & has a pole, and now looses one of the privileges of winning a race/pole. But who ever gets his # for next year can go & take his place, they didn't earn it Ryan did.I'm sorry but I think that's just dumb.

  2. I LOVE IT! Elliott's in it now!

  3. about a million thumbs wayyyyy DOWN!

This is the stupidest thing i have ever read. Not only does it ruin how great the bud shootout once was, but winning a pole no longer has any long term effects past sunday.

Also, they are putting to much empasis on owners lately its the drivers and crews that win at least use drivers pts

  4. Thumbs up!

  5. super way down

they should break what is working great

  6. Thumbs wayyy down

People who get pole should still be rewarded with the chance to race in the shootout!

  7. This is why sponsorship in NASCAR has gotten way out of hand.  Change a good thing just because your competitor is the sponsor of the pole award?  Frickin' Belgians.

  8. Thumbs Down way Down, The Budweiser Shootout was for pole winners now it emphasis manufacturers.

  9. Thumbs Down.  I think they have ruined the Bud Shootout and i think that Budweiser had a lot to do with the decision to change the format, since they are not sponsoring the pole sitter award anymore.

  10. I like it because a) my man Kenseth rarely wins a pole and b) who cares about qualifying?!  The race should be set according to something based on race performance.

  11. definite thumbs down

  12. Thumbs Down!

The whole point of the Shootout was so that the pole sitter's were given their own race next season. Come on NASCAR, you should know better.

  13. its ok

  14. This is a MAJOR THUMBS DOWN, I call this a toilet thumbs down, it STINKS, thats all I can say about it.. Again here goes NA$CAR fixing something that isn't broke...

    GO Dale Jr & Hms

  15. Its going to take some getting used to. Nascar wants to put more emphasis on manufacturers and this is one way of doing that. With more financial woes for the car companies, they don't have a huge incentive to invest $$$$$ into race teams, and without them, (and their money and  equipment), our sport is doomed. So while I wish for the good ole days of the Bud Shootout as we've known it, I suppose I could get used to this new idea. And yeah, it sucks for Tony and Ryan, and their fans, but they'll be back for the 2010 shootout without a doubt.

    In a nutshell I suppose I'll give it a half-hearted thumbs up.

EDIT: In addition, I also think Nascar needs to reward pole winners in some way. Maybe awarding extra points for poles won or something like that.

  16. well thats just dumb

i dont what to say without getting deleted so thumbs DOWN

  17. I think that sucks.

It will always be HMS and RR.  Every year.

  18. thumbs down

I like the shootout the way it was and they should of left it that way!

  19. Thumbs down, WAY DOWN. NASCAR is messing stuff up and making no sense of things anymore. It is becoming one big joke. The Bud Shootout was for pole sitters and it should stay that way.

  20. I don't like it because it pretty much removes any chance of an underdog driver who snatched a pole getting in the Shootout and then making a huge upset by winning. Like that could happen in the Sprint Cup today anyway.

If they were going to do something like this, if should of been the three highest drivers for each manufacturer, thats 12, then the other 12 would be decided by winning poles. I guess that'd be impossible, with Coors and Bud.

  21. Absolutely thumbs down! The Bud-Shootout has always been a race in which pole-sitters race in and to change the tradition is extremely dissapointing.

  22. Thumbs up and thumbs down. Here's what I think about this.

I think it stinks that Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, and Ryan Newman will not be in it. But guys like Patrick Carpentier and Joe Nemecheck don't deserve to be in it and won't be. I guess what I'm saying is that after a couple of years Nascar will get used to this and everything will be ok. This also makes it so most of the top drivers make the shootout not just a bunch of guys that need to qualify for the race on time so they set they're car up for qualifying and get a pole but then they're engine blows up on lap 44 or something and they come in 42nd.
