New Caledonia nail Tuvalu, 11-1: 2011 OFC Futsal Championship – Futsal News
New Caledonia ousted Tuvalu by 11-1, in their second group match of the Oceanic Football Confederation (OFC) Futsal Championship. The side made a come-back after their defeat yesterday against the defending champions, Solomon Island by 5-13.
New Caledonia kept their hopes alive to proceed to the semi-finals, after the side started-off with two early goals. Ivann Pourouoro and Julien Drudri netted to take the lead in the first five minutes of the match.
Paulin, Cedrick Humuni and Loic Caunes then scored three more goals for New Caledonia. In the 14th minute of the match, Tuvalu player, Andrew Taufaiua, scored the sole goal of the contest for his team.
Tuvalu’s supporters did not get any further chance to applaud their team, as New Caledonia netted six more goals during the second-half of the match.
New Caledonia’s Romain Guitton was the top-scorer for his side with three goals. Paulin also added two goals to the score sheet. Caryl Thepinier and Ismael Tchovanili sealed the match for New Caledonia, in the last minutes of the match.
Tuvalu coach, Takiao Vave said, “I think we did pretty well in the first half but we just couldn't kept it up in the second half, it was tough for the boys. But it's a highlight for us to have scored a goal, we had some other chances but we just couldn't
put it in.”
New Caledonia will be playing a vital match with the Tahitian Futsal squad on May 18. It will be an important match for both teams, as the winner will progress to the semi-finals from group ‘B’ of the OFC Futsal championship.
Coach of the New Caledonia squad, Eric Michalak, expressed his views on the last match of the group rounds and said,
“We need to work on the simple things, like passing and movement. It will not be very easy to win against Tahiti because they want to same thing we do. We need to get some revenge because we lost to them 3-2 last year”.
Tuvalu will face the Kurukuru squad in their last match of the group rounds.
