New Call of Duty being developed for Next Generation Consoles – Video Games Update
An Infinity Ward employee resume suggests that the next Call of Duty after Black Ops II is being developed for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC and ‘To be announced’ platforms.
Andrew Aye’s resume also states that he is working to ‘support game and engine development’ and is ‘responsible for setting technical direction and design for a new high-end Dx11 (DirectX11) code base’. This leak hints that the next generation consoles might
arrive by the end of 2013 since the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 do not support Dx11. Activision is known for prioritising the console version over the PC version so it must mean that new consoles might be out before the 2013 Call of Duty title is released.
This news comes as a pleasant surprise for gamers who are bored with Activision reusing the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (COD4) engine for every COD game since then. Many gamers believe that Call of Duty might be following the Battlefield series for once
and introducing Vehicular combat for the first time in the series.
What gamers are wondering is if Infinity Ward will be developing a new engine or reworking the old modified Quake 3 engine yet again to support DX11. Gamers will be really disappointed if it’s the latter as the engine has started showing its age and looks
significantly worse when compared to other first person shooters coming out.
Many might also be wondering if the new Call of Duty game will be set in the Modern warfare universe or will it be a new title altogether since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 pretty much tied up all lose ends and it would seem like a stretch if Infinity
Ward decided to continue that story.
It is unlikely to be a Black Ops game since Black Ops II is coming out this holiday season but it could be the secret Sledgehammer project as Activision has three separate studios working exclusively on the COD franchise. While Treyarch and Infinity Ward
have been alternating a COD release every year, Sledgehammer has yet to release its first COD title. Gamers will have to wait until 2013 for the big reveal.
