Question:

New Cameras to trap Speeding Motorists?

I have just seen a programme on ITV 4 where it was stated that the Association of Chief Police Officers is considering hidden cameras to trap speeding motorists.

Their resoning is based on the fact that they don't advise burglars of their methods to catch them so, why should they advise motorists.

Wonderful news! I have always felt this would stop the foolish and dangerous drivers but never thought it would ever come.

Who thinks I am wrong, I wonder?

  1. Well the speed camera's they put in open view have not stopped them driving like mad outside daughters college they screech to a halt and then two Monday's ago they run over an 18 yrs old and now she has died!

Serves people right to be honest speed KILLS!!! I must admit never expected it because if the numpties do not slow down when they see one then what good is a hidden one going to do?

  2. well the police have to warn people that there is a speeding camreas so they can prosicute them but if they domt they cant prosicute them , thats why they have put this program on tv to warn the drivers that in the future that there are going to put hidden camreas up to catch them . if you look carefully on the roads these days would of noticed that there are less marked police cars on the motorways and now they drive un marked cars to blend in with people to catch the speeders and these camreas what you have seen they are already in use on the m1 behind the matrex signs them one whichs say 40 mph ,50 mph or  60mph  they dont flash

  3. You have obviously don't have a very good memory.

Many years ago, speed traps (as they used to be called) WERE hidden - all of them.  That's why they were called 'traps'.

The first speed cameras were also often deliberately placed in obscured locations.  Even the police realised this was not doing their anti-speeding campaign any favours, so it became mandatory for speed cameras to be visible.

It appears we have now come full circle and they want to hide them.  Again...

  4. Let's face it, those that think it is Big Brother, are people that speed.  Well, I have to thank them.  Tickets issued by camera are tax notices, and those that receive them have VOLUNTEERED, in public (the roadways are public, remember) to pay the VOLUNTARY taxes.  We have many intersection and speed zone cameras here.  I have decided I will not volunteer to pay the tax, so I don't speed or run red lights.  Bring on more cameras, I say!

Anybody who has to actually take their eyes off the road to take a good look at the speedometer to make sure they are not speeding is a lousy driver.  Your field of vision should include the windshield, and the dash, as well as what is directly beside you.  Why do you think the dash instruments are in front of you, not in the back seat?  Bring on more cameras, I say!

  5. Its fine with me, as long as its POLICE cameras.

If they are going to be run by private speed camera partnerships, who have to generate enough revenue to keep in business, and deliberately place themselves in areas where speed limits are NOT clearly posted, then they deserve to be burned to the ground and taxpayers money refunded.

  6. I'm all against those idiots who race like a bat out of h**l. However there is a big diference between those and drivers who are just over the limit trying to concentrate on 101 things and doesn't want to take their eyes off the road to look at something else.  I consider it dangerous to continually taking your eye off the road to check on your speedo to make sure you don't go 1 mph over the limit when there are already signs for this and that, pedestrians to look out for bicycles and other hazards on the road.   Actual speeding in terms of "just over the limit" is a relatively low cause of accidents compared with drink/drugs and dangerous driving.

Cameras are there purely and only to make money.   They are not usually placed at black spots but at the bottom of hills and the end of straight roads etc where it is most likely people will get caught.

  7. There will ALWAYS be foolish, dangerous drivers, but they will now get caught more often, thank the lord.

  8. You are deluding yourself if you believe the motive is safety. This is a money-spinner, designed to extract even more money from the motorist in order to fill the ever hungry coffers of this inept Government. To take the burglary analogy - if they pay for monitored CCTV cameras on every tax-payers home in the U.K., then I'll support the hidden speed camera initiative. Sounds fair? No, thought not.

  9. The Government are all for this tax on wheels because the police raise so much money through it and therefore the govt don't have to pay the police so much.

I'm affraid that we will never stop this onslaught on the UK motorist no matter who we vote for. The only thing to do is take counter measures and buy something like 'Road Angel' or just try not to speed - or both.

  10. unfortunately its the motorist that gets it again lol there working on new ways to get money out the motorist all the time i mean how many police do you see on the beat these days not as many as years ago they would sooner go after an easy target the motorist also good money they get you with parking and as for the speeding cameras all over the place all little government money banks and the government tax on fuel there making a huge amount i was told it was something like 80p in every £1 whether that is true i don't know

  11. Welcome to "Big Brother"  We have them here in the states, they are major money makers and thats why towns use them. The only way to get rid of them is by voting out those who support them and vote in those who object to them.

  12. Speeding kills, so anything to stop it is great news!

    I don't speed so these camera's won't bother me!

  13. I think you are wrong. Many others agree, obviously.

You can hooray all that you want for these hidden speed traps, but the Big Brother element is what I object to.

If we come out in support of allowing our governments to place "hidden" cameras (far from a new thing) for this, what will be next?

  14. I totally agree with what you say, I don't understand why motorists think the police are out to get them, speeding is against the law, if you don't want to get fined, don't break the law, even a complete moron can work that one out.

To those who say they can't drive around looking at the speedo, you did it on your driving test and didn't have an accident, now you're a fully qualified and experienced driver

    it should be easy!

Driving is a privilege, if you want to keep it, play by the rules.

It shows how poor drivers are today when there are signs warning of speed cameras, and they still get caught.

  15. I think the more  realistically minded people on here have got a grip on whats happening and i agree ,just another example of the revenue collectors at work lets face it you and me are nothing to these people its our money they want!!!!!!!!

  16. We have to do something to stop the speeding, so welcome.

  17. Real wind up- this one.

Is that all secular/atheists officials do, is to think of plans how to trick people into fines and imprisonments?

They can't stop themselves, they're socialist at heart and they feel the system needs to be as depressed as possible.

Anyway, let's see how you feel when you're caught  "speeding" or parking a few inches out from the kerb, or your front bumper protruding a slightly over the edge of the permitted parking zone.

Real important stuff this...... keep the people down, hey bruv?
