I am currently training to become a New Car Salesman in the Metro area. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on there experiences in this profession. Examples: Why you like it, why you dont? Whats the most you made, whats the least? What would be a good manufacture to work for? Any info is appreciated.

Thank you.

  1. Ahhh Grasshopper...so much to learn. In Metro NY, I would definitely stick with the imports. You must find a house that has good foot traffic. That is how I used to roll. The house brings 'em in, and I close 'em. My responsibility was close, deliver, follow up. It really should be that simple.

Find a house that values its salespeople. That means paying them what they owe, on time, without chargebacks. I would not work for anyone that does not provide a recap sheet. Sell what you like, and whose clientele matches your personality. Find a house that does special finance. Big money there in today's economy.

There are a lot of brands to choose from, but the market in Metro is beginning to be dominated by regional "super dealers". That begins to cut down on the choices. Make yourselves aware of who they are and what they sell.

The good news is that I've never been unemployed because of the business. The bad news is that the BS factor can get get very high. Yet, you can bounce from store to store, if needed, as long as you have a known reputation as a hitter.

As far as money, you can make as little as 500 bucks a week, or as much as 2000. The rest is up to you.

    Good Luck.
