New Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall involved in nightclub fracas before move to Windy City - NFL News
Just a day after Chicago Bears confirmed the signing of wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Miami Dolphins news has emerged that the player has been accused of punching a woman in a New York nightclub.
According to reports, a woman named Christin Myles was punched by Marshall after he got into an altercation with her group of friends.
The news looks to overshadow Chicago’s big move at the start of free-agency as they signed the wide receiver trading two third round draft picks to complete the deal.
Bears general manager, Phil Emery, whose first move was to bring Marshall to play at Soldier Field in the new season knew about the alleged incident but went ahead with the trade.
"Both the Bears and Dolphins were aware of what occurred over the weekend. We decided to move forward with the trade. We have high expectations for Brandon as a Bear,"
According to sources, Marshall was enjoying himself with friends and his wife at a New York nightclub when he got into a fight with other party goers celebrating the birthday of Christin Myles.
The woman went outside of the club to join her friends where Marshall got into a fight and punched her in the face leaving her with a black eye.
The wide receiver’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, though refuted the allegations saying that his client was not involved.
"Brandon Marshall was the keynote speaker at a charitable event in New York. After the event was over he, his wife and close friends attended a function at a local club. While at the function a fight broke out NOT involving Mr. Marshall or his friends."
Marshall’s agent, Kennard McGuire, too said that the report is untrue and that he was a victim rather than the aggressor in the incident in which the wide receiver’s wife was also hit by a bottle leaving an injury for which she has now been hospitalised.
McGuire told the Chicago Sun-Times Wednesday.
"Let's not forget that Brandon and his wife are victims, Brandon has my unflinching and unwavering support."
The incident is currently being investigated by police and given the 27-year-old’s previous disciplinary record in Miami it will not be surprising if he is found guilty in the case.
More progress on the case is expected in the coming days.
