So im pretty sure i need a new clutch, problem is i dont think i will be able to afford it for at least another 4 months! It had a new one at 55k miles (its now on 70) i bought it about 1k miles ago. is that a normal life span of a clutch? But the real question, how much wil it cost for a garage to buy a new one and fit it (estimate)?

  1. it depends what car it is, the cost will be similar to the last one you got at 1k miles ago, you must drive with your left foot on the clutch pedal all of the time, that will certainly bugger it in that short time.

WHAT CAR IS IT? MAKE MODEL AND ENGINE SIZE?

  2. depends how you drive ,how long a clutch will last. price wise 200-400- depending on type of auto.

  3. The real question is your driving technique. Clutches, unless faulty can last 100,000 miles if treated carefully. If you hold the car on the clutch on a hill, slip the clutch to accelerate more quickly or rest your foot on the pedal you will shorten it's life dramatically. The less work you give the clutch the longer it will last. You will have to make a few calls to brake and clutch specialists in your area to get any meaningfull costings.

Ask them what make of clutch they fit. Ferodo or Lockheed are the best.

  4. Mine's on 120K. 2.0 TD Avensis Estate.

  5. normally a clutch should last between 70000 miles - 100000 miles a lot depends on driving style however as you dont know the previous owners driving habbits thats not easy to check, just make sure you get a decent brand fitted when you get it changed

  6. What car is it??

How can you expect a price when you don't say what car it is??

A clutch can last 70,000 miles easy, and it depends on the way it is driven, a c**p driver can burn a clutch out in 3 days.

  7. Have you got the paperwork from when you had it done at 55K?

I had a new exhaust section last month and it comes with a 3 year guarantee.

There is also a company around the place called "mr.clutch".

TBH.. if my car needs a serious repair, I might be tempted to just sell/scrap it.... cause you can pick up good runners for near price of a clutch these days.

  8. A clutch can do 80,000 miles or more if looked after. If it needs a new one after 15k it's been spectacularly ragged.

You might just have a leak in the system (if it's hydraulic), or the cable might need adjusting (if it's cable).

£200 for a cheap car up to £15,000 for some Italian exotica. Assume £400 for something reasonable.

  9. Not sure on the price but my cars done 116k mile from new, still on the original clutch and it's only just starting to have a slight slip in it now.

You say you only bought the car 1k miles ago... do you know what type of a driver the last owner was? Was it driven hard?
