Question:

New Computer can't get online?

I'm having some trouble getting an internet connection on a new computer. Currently I'm using Verizon DSL with a Westell B90 modem. My old computer gets online just fine, however it was an old 266 mhz Celeron and it recently got hit with some data corruption so it was about time for an upgrade. The new computer is a 1.7ghz P4 running Windows XP. I don't have Verizon DSL CD anymore and I don't ever recall using the CD when I connected to my old computer. The problem is that when I plug the network cable into the new computer I get a message saying that I'm getting limited or no network connectivity. I tried using the network wizard and and my TCP/IP is set to automatically detect, but I'm still not getting anything. I set up my DSL connection about 5 or 6 years ago and I haven't have to touch it since. I thought maybe I needed to enter a username and password to get online, but I've never had to do that. Is there a step in the set up process that I'm missing?

  1. I have personally not used a Verizon DSL, I use a D-Link DSL modem. I don't need to log onto some web interface, all I do if I have a new OS is set up the connections manually(and also install drivers) and enter static IP addresses(I hope your ISP don't use DHCP). Anyway, check from the Device Manager if the drivers for the modem are FULLY installed(i.e not yellow question marks). By the way, when you first had your old PC connected using the DSL modem, did you configure the connection yourself (and also install drivers) or it's your ISP or someone else who did it for you?

  2. If you have wireless mean you don't have to have anything pulged in then it should pick up something but if you don't make sure the plug is in all the way
