  1. If you approved for permanent residence card and you have Alien # so you can enter the US. What you need some stamp in your passport showing your Alien #. You get this from your local US Embassy. Until the card mailed to you take forever. Better contact the Embassy for further questions.

  2. If you are approved for permanent residency in the United States, you will go for a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in your country of residence for your visa. If granted, you can then use this visa to enter the U.S.

You will be a permanent resident upon arrival in the United States and your green card will be mailed to your U.S. address within 2-4 weeks.

If you wish to depart the U.S. then that is fine, upon arrival with your visa you will get an I-551 stamp in your passport. This carries the same legality as the actual green card. If you are departing beyond 6 months, then it is advisable to file an I-131.

  3. If you were given conditional permanent residence while in the United States you would need your 2 year permanent residence card for travel or a stamp in your passport (given by your local U.S. CIS office) to travel. If you haven't entered the United States yet you do not actually have Conditional Permanent Residence until you enter the U.S. on an immigrant visa. You would get the Immigrant visa from the U.S. Embassy in your country. Once you entered on the Immigrant visa you would be able to use it to travel for up to a year (or until the actual card is sent). The card will be sent to the address you have listed in your packet as your permanent address in the United States. As a foreigner in the United States (under any status) you are required to keep your address current with U.S. CIS.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.
