New Detroit Pistons signing Corey Maggette happy with roster, looking forward to contribute – NBA Update
The Detroit Pistons are in good shape for the 2012-2013 NBA season, according to recent acquisition Corey Maggette. Maggette has been traded in from the Charlotte Bobcats by Detroit and the veteran is positive about the impact he and the rest of Detroit’s
roster can have next season.
While Maggette was starved of quality support at the Bobcats, he is happy to be surrounded by a mix of youth and experience in Detroit. The Pistons are going through a transition at the moment and their roster is filled with a spectrum of players ranging
from young aspirants to aging veterans.
Maggette himself is on the more experienced side, having spent over a decade in the NBA already. He wasn’t sure whether Pistons centre Ben Wallace would return for another season, but ranked him highly. He also praised players like Greg Monroe, Brandon Knight,
Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey.
"With the players that we have now, we have a lot of young talent on this team starting from Brandon (Knight) to Greg (Monroe) and veteran guys like (Ben Wallace), if he continues to come back and play, and (Tayshaun) Prince and (Rodney) Stuckey.”
Maggette himself was one of the better players at Charlotte but carried perhaps a little too much of the load. In Detroit, he is looking forward to getting in the right condition and lowering his minutes so that he can have the maximum impact. Corey believed
that he could help Pistons move forward and marked his aggressive attacking style as an upside.
“Just to be able to contribute anyway I can. A big asset of mine is being able to get to the foul line for this team." Corey said.
The Pistons will probably using Maggette as an off the bench impact player, just like they used Ben Gordon. Gordon was the man sent to Charlotte in the trade that landed Maggette in Detroit. Ben had a lot of potential which prompted the Pistons to pry him
away from the Chicago Bulls but his performances with the Detroit outfit never reached the levels required.
Hence Gordon has been shipped out along with his bloated contract to the Bobcats, a team that was on the lookout for a good outside shooter.
