Question:

New Dog/Old Dog Pit Bull Question?

I have a golden retriever basset hound. She is 8 years old and she is a very good dog. I am getting a Pit bull/Chow mix next week. It is only 6 weeks old and a female. I was wandering how they will get along because they are both females and the Pit Bull can be a dominate breed when they get older.

  1. As long as your retriever is ok with the pup they will be fine i have 2 females an a male pitbull an there fine together they have a tiff every now an again but nothing big.

  2. It will depend on the golden, the pup will grow up with her and the golden will stay dominant if that is her personality. I have a pit bull boy who is 5 and when my american bulldog girl puppy started getting big (2 now) she dominated him because that is not his personality.

  3. i have no idea what ur talking about man

  4. If your older dog has been around other dogs and is well socialized, and youintroduce them slowly its shouldnt be a problem.  The older dogs usually help keep the little ones "in line"

Just be sure to give your older dog lots of attention also because she may get jealous.

I have a older female lab, and rescued a male pit/lab mix.  She took very good care of him as a pup and now 3 years later, they get along fine, when he wants to play and she doesnt she just lets him no.

He could dominate her by size and strength but we just never let him be in charge.
