I went to flatbread pizza store in canon-ct with my husband yesterday. when we wanted to order the food and my husband asked for beer the server girl asked him to show her his ID. she said it is their policy for any one under 40 years old!!!! we had been there before and this was not requested. We left the restaurant but before calling the manager today I would like to know what you think of it. was it because we had changed our tables 2 times due to their mal table choice despite the whole place was empty? or was it because we have dark hair and we look foreigner?

  1. Here is the thing.... I've been bar tending for 11 years. I have never seen anyone get so mad as when you ask for their ID and they are of age. It's not like I don't believe you, or saying your trying to drink underage, I'm doing my effin job. For one, as we all know, people do have fake ID's and like to use them. I can lose my job, get fined, and possibly go to jail if I serve a minor. B, its illegal to walk around without an ID if you are over the age of 18, and not to mention you can't drink if you do not have your ID. The story I like to tell on this subject is: One day my MOM, note that I said MY mom, came to my bar top and ordered a drink. Me being the smart @$$ I am, i asked to see her ID, knowing she was of age. She didn't have it, guess what, MY MOM didn't get her Pina Coloda. The moral of this entire rant is QUIT CRYING THAT YOU HAVE TO SHOW YOUR ID, IT TAKES 4 SECONDS!!!!  SHOW YOUR ID HAVE A RUM AND COKE AND A SMILE AND SHUT THE h**l UP!!!!

And if you are really thinking about calling the manager over this you really are just a prude and need to learn that this is not an issue to call a manager over.

  2. WE WENT TO A CLUB IN LANSING MI AND BEFORE WE COULD GET IN WE ALL HAD TO SHOW ID. WE HAD GIRLS FROM AGE  24 TO 51. IT IS JUST TO HAD TO TELL NOW DAYS. JUST SHOW THE ID. IM SURE THEY DONT LIKE TO ASK JUST LIKE WE DONT LIKE TO SHOW.

  3. thats kool i think drinking is ok ads long as your not drunk i mean a coupple of beers are ok but a lot not a good idea

  4. This is NOTHING new...most establishments now have a policy of carding anyone who even remotely looks young...they can be sued and/or have their liquor license taken away for selling alcohol to minors..so of course they should be careful...look at is a COMPLIMENT...you both must look much younger than your years...it has NOTHING to do with race, ethnicity...

I'm surprised this is the first time you've run into this...happens to me ALL the time...(and by-the-way, I'm 49!)

  5. They were not being prejudiced.  It is the law in Texas too.

  6. Well I don't know about your specifics but I have been a bartender for 9 years. I ALWAYS ask for id from my guests, regardless of their appearance. I am going to cover my butt (so to speak). The idea of being "carded" is usually well liked (and taken as a flattering compliment) by older women, it makes them feel like they look young, this is most of the time a win-win situation when you work for tips. Men usually think its a pain in the butt to have to show their id and can get very mixed reactions.

  7. Do you mean checking I.D.'s? I am a bartender in a restaurant. We are required to check ID's of anyone who looks like they are 35 and under... Just policy and just in case you are a secret shopper or really are under 21. Servers and bartenders get graded on things like that in CO. She is just doing her job. If we do accidentally server someone under 21 and is reported, we could go to jail and the restaurant will be shut down.. Plus she could be new, if you are regulars there...

  8. Geez lady all this means is that server was just doing her job. Just pull out your id and show it to her. What's the harm, quit being such a snob.

  9. This is happening a lot more that I've seen.  I've been carded several times lately, and I'm 44.  I was refused service at an airport bar because I didn't have my ID with me.  The waitress said they are checking more often and more carefully, so businesses aren't taking any chances.

  10. This is not an American or CT state policy, it is the restaurant's policy and I have heard of this before.  More and more places are making these types of policies.  The fines for serving under age drinkers are hefty and losing your liquor license is also a possibility so they don't want to take any chances.  They are setting what to them is a safe bet that if they card everyone who looks under 40 they will not make a mistake.  By having this policy they are also making the servers job easier by not having to guess as much.

Unless the server was rude to you, you really don't need to call the manager.
