New Employee hasn't shown up yet?

Owner of company I work at hired an additional employee to work in store. I've been off for three days and haven't been in the store, he told me yesterday that the new employee would be training with me today and tomorrow. We've been open for almost three hours, she's not here yet and the owner is on vacation for the next week.

I'm the asst. manager and I have no idea what's going on....what would be your take on the situation?

  1. Call them. Hope they have a reallly good excuse. Give reason to boss; or fire accordingly

  2. I would try calling this person to ask her what's going on.

  3. Listen, Im sorry. I'm having car troubles. I'm on the bus right now. Please don't terminate me, I need this job. Tell Karen I'm sorry.

  4. You don't sound like you're smart enough to be in any kind of management position.

  5. Your boss probably low balled the new employee on their pay, and they decided to go somewhere else.

  6. There could be a misunderstanding, but to one who values employment . . . usually a person is excited and wants to begin working soon!  Out of courtesy, I would contact the employee, find out the problem.  If you cannot contact her within a couple of days, I would rescind the offer.

  7. fire them, if they are not going to show up on the first day then more than likely they will not be a good employee. Only in the case of an extreme circumstance like a car accident, death, or ect.. would i even consider to let them stay

  8. call the numbers that you have on file for her...

  9. Well, new employees often decide not to remain employed once they get a jist of their new work environment.  Or they applied for other jobs at the same time that they applied for this one and after they accepted this job they got a better response from another employer.

The best thing you can do is your best.  It'll show your boss that you can handle extra responsibility and not get all upset about it.  Keep a clear head.  If the new person shows up late, just let it go and welcome him and continue to do your best.  When your boss returns he'll find out how late the new employee was and deal with it accordingly.

Maybe something bad happened to him, or there was a break in communication.  Give him the benefit of the doubt.

  10. your the asst. manager & your looking here?

  11. Look to see if the name and number of the new employee is in the store.  If it is, call them and make sure that they know they are scheduled for today.  Or if there is no number, call other employees to see if they know the persons number, if they don't come in today, call the owner (if you can) and let them know.

  12. If the employee doesn't call in sick best thing to do is to fire the employee for not being responsible. Theirs plenty of people out their seeking for a job I'm pretty sure you will find a new employee in less then an hour. Good luck!
