New England Patriots Crush Indianapolis Colts 59-24 - NFL Recap
The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts faced off in week 11 but the game was a no-contest as the Patriots star offence completely pulverised the Colts.
Indianapolis lost 59-24 and saw their four-game winning run come to an end in the most ruthless fashion as New England showed no mercy.
New England made some big offensive plays but their much maligned defence also contributed as it delivered its most complete performance to give Colts no chance to win.
Quarterback Tom Brady passed for three touchdowns and 334 yards while the Patriots defence made returned two interceptions for touchdowns to put the game out of reach for Indianapolis by the third quarter.
Alfonzo Dennard scored a touchdown with an 87-yard touchdown return and speaking to the media after the game said:
"The coaches want us to play aggressive. So that's what I was doing out there."
Brady though did not give much attention to the score line and said that there is still a lot to be done this year after helping New England put up its fourth straight victory and improving them to 7-3.
"I don't think we're anywhere (near) where we need to be at this point.”
Cornerback Aqib Talib also was happy with the contribution made by New England’s defence which currently ranks as the worst in the entire league.
"A lot of plays motivated the defence. About that third or fourth (Colts) series, we kind of got into it. It was kind of quiet out there early (then) we started talking."
For Indianapolis Colts star rookie quarterback Andrew Luck this was a big learning experience and something that he will look to emulate as he becomes more accustomed to the NFL.
Luck has had a great rookie season and performed well in this game too passing for 334 yards and two touchdowns but his three interceptions cost his side dearly.
Speaking after the game he said:
"They're good enough. They don't need those gifts, but to their credit, they created those and we didn't."
Adding further he said:
"I don't think guys panicked" after that one-two punch. Playing hard is not enough, as evidenced tonight."
The Patriots took control after the first quarter with the offence going rampant in the final three quarters.
New England scored touchdown after touchdown building up a 38-17 lead by the end of the third quarter and essentially putting the game to bed.
However, they did not take it easy with Colts giving up a further three touchdowns and New England ended up with their best win of the current season.
New England are now top of the AFC East division and will now prepare for a Thanksgiving Day encounter against their biggest rivals New York Jets.
