New England Patriots NT Vince Wilfork says Tim Tebow is a "winner" - NFL News
The Tebow-Sanchez storyline is one of the biggest news stories in the offseason as debate continues on which quarterback will take to the field as the starter for the New York Jets.
New England Patriots nose tackle, Vince Wilfork also added his two cents to the debate. Talking with fans at an event the huge defenseman said that both players are good but he would not want to be at the Jets in this situation.
"Tebow. He’s a winner. He’s proven. I mean, I’ll tell you what, both have positives and negatives. You really can’t go wrong. I’m glad I’m not in that boat. Put it like that."
Well we can take that as Tim Tebow 1 – Mark Sanchez 0.
The burly nose tackle was asked a multitude of questions by the approximately 150 fans who showed up.
Wilfork also talked about quarterbacks and said that if he could change any rule it was the penalties.
“One thing I’d get rid of is the penalties, certain penalties. I can do without them. You have a guy that’s making $30 million a year (the quarterback), but you can’t touch him. C’mon, let’s be for real now. That’s probably the main thing. Being able to
hit a quarterback good. We need that back right there.”
Adding further he said.
“But you hurt the franchise of your team if you’re allowed to tee off on the quarterback. Cuz you know, quarterbacks are wimpy.”
Wilfork continued entertaining the crowd with his humorous quips about all things football. He also said that he does not do a lot of trash talking preferring to show his abilities on the field. He also added that talking too much is tiresome leading to
laughter from the assembled fans.
The nose tackle had a good 2011-12 year even though once again the Patriots offence took much of the plaudits.
Wilfork made 52 tackles and 3.5 sacks while also intercepting two passes and forcing a fumble.
The Patriots reached the Super Bowl finals once again this year but succumbed to New York Giants in the final after a 21-17 loss.
This year though they will be once again gunning for the main event as they remain the strongest team in the American Football Conference (AFC).
