New England Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski listed as “DNP” in Wednesday’s report – NFL News Update
New England Patriots' tight end, Rob Gronkowski was listed as unable to practice, as DNP (Did Not Practice) in the Patriots' injury report on Wednesday, January 25.
The tight end sustained a left ankle injury in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.
The incident happened towards the end of the third quarter of the game.
Gronkowski was hurt as he took a 23-yard reception with just a minute remaining in the quarter. Gronkowski was then seen limping off the field.
However, Gronkowski did not stay away from the field for long. He was back, just five minutes later and played for the remainder of the game after getting his ankle “re-taped”.
He was also sighted wearing a removable boot on his left foot.
Gronkowski did not make his absence felt as he went on to take five receptions for 87 yards in the game.
The Boston Herald on Tuesday reported that Gronkowski suffered ligament damage in his left ankle, but is still expected to play the New York Giants in the Super Bowl XLVI.,
The Patriots made it to the Super Bowl after defeating the Ravens, 23-20, last Sunday. The Super Bowl event is supposed to take place on the 5th of February, in Indianapolis.
None of the Patriots practiced on Wednesday but, nevertheless, they were expected to file an injury report as per the requirements and Gronkowski landed up being labelled as “DNP”.
On the other hand, twelve other players were listed as being limited in practice.
The list of players limited in practice included guard, Logan Mankins, wide receiver, Wes Welker, and linebacker, Rob Ninkovich.
This was the first injury report filed by the Patriots since last Sunday’s game against the Ravens.
The Patriots would be facing the Giants in the Super Bowl event on Monday.
The injury to Gronkowski may turn out to be very damaging for the Patriots if he is unable to recover in time. At present Gronkowski still has eleven days left to recover from his injury.
Gronkowski has had 90 receiving this season for 1,327 yards and went on to score 17 touchdowns.
At present, he holds the National Football League (NFL) record for most number of touchdowns by a tight end.
Gronkowski joined the Patriots in 2010 and went on to score 10 touchdowns in his first season, with 546 yards on 42 receptions.
The 22-year-old player is currently playing his second year in NFL.
Gronkowski was impressive in the playoff game against the Denver Broncos when he took 10 catches for 145 yards and three touchdowns.
It would be a major setback for the Pats if Gronkowski is not fit in time for the game or even loses out on practice sessions prior to the Super Bowl.
