New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski happy with recovery from injury - NFL News
New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski, is still recovering from his ankle surgery and continues to improve day by day.
The tight end had problems with his ankle after taking a knock in the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens last season.
New England won that game right at the death after quarterback, Tom Brady, himself rushed to score the winning touchdown.
Gronkowski took to the field during the Super Bowl XLVI game against the New York Giants, with a protective boot for his ankle but his movement was greatly limited and he did not show any of the pace that Patriots fans have grown accustomed with.
The Patriots went on to lose that game 21-17 and many fans lamented that if their favourite tight end was at full fitness their team would have emerged victorious.
A few days after that loss Gronkowski underwent surgery and feels that his recovery is going very well ahead of the start to training camp.
Speaking to the media at a charity golf tournament for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, he was asked about his ankle and the tight end just replied with.
"Great!"
He refused to answer further questions on the subject and did not even suggest whether he will be ready to take part in training camp after missing all of the offseason Patriots organised team activities.
Speaking about his new contract with the Patriots, a six-year $ 53 million deal, though Gronkowski said.
"I'm just happy. Both sides are really happy. I love all my fans out there. It's a great community, a great team. It's awesome going out there every single Sunday in front of that crowd. I'm happy to be here long-term, definitely. It all worked out well."
Gronkowski scored 17 touchdowns last season the highest scored by any player at the position during 2011-12 and covered 1,327 receiving yards from 90 receptions.
He will be gunning to get fit soon and get back on the field to train with his teammates and fans are expecting even a bigger impact from their tight end in the new 2012-13 campaign.
