New England Patriots Tom Brady makes history in win over Bills
Back in October, everyone was worried when New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, threw two interceptions in a win over the Baltimore Ravens. But now, he has made the Pats almost unbeatable.
He has not thrown a single interception since that game and will probably get even better in the play-offs, since New England has claimed the AFC’s top seed, allowing them home field advantage in the first three rounds. However, the play-offs are still a
couple of weeks away. For now, the focus is their win over the Buffalo Bills, 34-3. Brady helped the Pats out with three touchdown passes, two of which were to Rob Gronkowski. They seem like a match made in heaven.
In this particular game, Brady broke the record set by Cleveland Browns’, Bernie Kosar for most attempts without an interception. Kosar’s record was 308, set in the 1990 season. Brady broke that record with his 17th attempt in the start of the
third quarter, with a failed pass to Gronkowski. He finished the game with 15 completions out of 27 attempts, with his ensuing record standing at 319 passing attempts, without an interception. Shrugging off the record, Brady said,
"I guess I'm glad I'm not throwing interceptions."
He was happier with the fact that he helped the 13-2 Pats take first place in the AFC for the first time in seven years and eight division titles in ten years. Brady said,
"It never gets old. We never get tired of winning."
Who would? Brady has 140 passing yards in his eighth consecutive games with at least two touchdowns. Shayne Graham kicked two field goals, Danny Woodhead ran 29 yards for a touchdown and Alge Crumpler caught a four yard pass for another touchdown. The Pats
will end their regular season with a final game against the Miami Dolphins. They are going into their last game with seven straight wins, which is their longest since 2007, when they were 16-0. Brady led the Pats to score 31 points or more in each of their
last seven games. He also has thrown only four interceptions this season but none in his last 10 games. For the Bills, on the other hand, things are just getting harder and harder. They have lost 15 straight games to New England and 20 of their past 21. Quarterback Ryan
Fitzpatrick, who lost two fumbles and threw three interceptions, expressed,
"I killed the team today. You can't do that on any day when you play a team that is that good and that efficient on offense."
The only thing that could cool down the red hot Patriots was Mother Nature. Severe weather cancelled their flight back to New York and they were forced to drive an hour to a hotel in Rochester, since most hotels in and around Buffalo were full because of
the World Junior Hockey Championships. For the Pats, it didn’t really matter. They were upset that they couldn’t make it for Christmas, with their families. Nose tackle Vince Wilfork said,
"We got a 'W,' and that's our biggest present, being able to come into the locker room and being able to see that hat and T-shirt. That’s something to be proud of."
Just as amazing to Wilfork, was how the Pats inexperienced defense is beginning to develop. He said,
"I know a lot of people counted us out. But all year, we knew what we had in this locker room. This football team is getting better. We're not where we want to be by any means, but we're definitely moving forward."
The game was basically over between half time, when the Bills opened with a 26 yard field goal by Rian Lindell, after which the Patriots terrorized Buffalo with 24 unanswered points. Bills coach, Chan Gailey said after watching his team inexplicably unravel
in its home finale,
"We played bad. Turnovers, penalties, not stopping the run and every bit of it. Everybody on the whole team, all of us take the blame for that."
New England will play Miami next Sunday, while the Bears will be playing against the New York Jets.
Stay tuned!
