New England Patriots Tom Brady’s foot recovering well
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s foot is recovering well and he is hopeful that his surgically repaired right foot will be good as new in time for the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, according to a source.
The 33-year old quarterback had a stress fracture in his right foot and underwent surgery after the Patriots were knocked out of the playoffs on January 20, 2011. The same source said that a recent x-ray showed that the fracture in Brady’s navicular bone
is bridging, meaning that his foot is healing properly.
Brady was seen throwing passes in Los Angeles, California on April 1, with his foot and ankle concealed by workout shoes and pants. However, he seemed to be practicing without the walking boot that he was required to wear after his surgery.
A website also said that this was Brady’s fifth surgery, who said that he had surgeries previously for knee, groin and shoulder problems. He also had other injuries but did not disclose what they were for, when he sustained them or how he had sustained them.
His recent foot injury first popped up on the team’s injury report before their Week 10 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although he missed a couple of practices during the regular season, he never missed a game. Throughout the 2010 season, Brady led
the Pats to a 14-2 record and earned his second Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the process. He threw for 3,900 yards, 36 touchdowns and only four interceptions, beating his old league record touchdown to interception ratio by 9:1, meaning only one interception
for every nine touchdowns. His previous record was 6:1.
After his most recent surgery, Brady said "Over the course of the season, a lot of players throughout the league, a lot of players on our team deal with these types of injuries. Part of having a little bit of mental toughness is putting those things aside
and still going out and trying to perform your best each week."
Brady said via text that he plans to play for at least ten more years and is currently signed until the end of the 2014 season. He does not expect that these injuries will keep him from playing his best and continuing his very productive career.
After being drafted 199th overall in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady shocked analysts when the small town, little known quarterback continued his career with the Patriots, earned starting quarterback honours in his second season with
the Pats and continued to rise to success, easily surpassing top quarterback Chad Pennington, who was drafted 18th overall by the New York Jets in the same draft.
Brady missed only one season due to injury in 2008, playing only one game then, but has otherwise started in every single game with the Pats since his second season with the team.
