New England Patriots outplay New York Jets 37-16 in week 10 – NFL Recap
After three consecutive losses, New England Patriots finally had their moment when they defeated New York Jets 37-16 at MetLife Stadium in the week 10 game of the National Football League on Sunday.
A deserving victory has held them at the top spot of the American Football Conference East division with six wins and three defeats. On the other hand, carrying five victories and four defeats to their credit, Jets are placed right
next to Patriots in the division ranking.
Patriots dominated the game from the beginning and did not provide any room to Jets to accelerate. Placekicker Stephen Gostkowski put them in front with field goals from 56 and 36 yards respectively in the first quarter.
Jets came back in the second quarter taking the lead after a penalty and a touchdown. The lead, however, did not last long and Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady threw an 18-yard pass to tight end Rob Gronkowski, who scored a touchdown
to take the lead 13-9 at halftime.
The second half belonged to Patriots. They dominated the third quarter with a field goal from Gostkowski and a touchdown from Gronkowski who caught a five-yard pass from Tom Brady.
Jets’ offence was restricted from moving forward as Patriots took the 23-9 lead to the final quarter. Their defensive wall was penetrated when Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez sent a seven-yard pass to wide receiver Plaxico Burress,
who reduced the deficit to 23-16.
Patriots responded strongly in the final quarter. Tom Brady threw another touchdown-pass, this time to Deion Branch, who scored a touchdown. Soon after that, another touchdown sealed the victory for Patriots with 37-16 on the board.
Brady was the passing leader for Patriots. He threw three touchdown passes and had 26 carries on 39 attempts for 329 yards. He was jubilant after the win and said that “it’s very sweet”.  He also said that the team should keep
on getting such results.
“The good teams keep getting better this time of year," he said. "That's what we need to do.”
As the three-game winning streak of Jets and ended and they got first home defeat this season, the team management has much to do before facing the next opponent. Coach Rex Ryan apologised to the fans for the defeat and regretted
that the players made mistakes that caused them the match.
“You're not going to beat many teams when you make the mistakes that we made," Ryan said. "We've been down this road before. I apologize to our fans."
Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez also thinks that the loss was a result of poor performance. Talking to the press, he said, “It wasn’t our night. We earned what we got tonight.”
