New England Patriots place Mike Wright on injured reserve
After being thankful that they got a defensive lineman back on Friday, the New England Patriots have lost another player.
Mike Wright led the Pats with 5.5 sacks even though he missed the last six games of the season. He was placed on injured reserve on Friday, which will end his season after suffering a concussion on November 21 against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Pats have also lifted the suspension of rookie defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick according to a source.
He was suspended on Monday for unknown reasons and when reporters asked head coach Bill Belichick about the suspension on Wednesday he said, "Whatever is between the player and the team will stay between the player and the team."
One of the biggest concerns that the team has is their defensive line. They have placed two players on injured reserve and have suspended Deaderick over the past week.
Wright has been playing for six years and was rushing quarterback Peyton Manning in what became his last play of the season. In the fourth quarter of the game, Wright fell face first to the ground and did not get up. When he finally managed to get to his
feet, he wobbled towards the Patriots side before changing direction to his own sideline.
It is not known what caused Wright’s concussion but it seems like when he was rushing against Kyle DeVan, his hand went into Wright’s helmet over his face.
Deaderick started in four games out of the 10 that he prepared for and is credited with 17 tackles as well as two sacks.
His playing time has been a lot less since November 25, having been inactive for seven games even though he was ready to play.
The Pats still have 10-year veteran Gerard Warren and Pro Bowler Vince Wilfork are still in the defensive line-up but are without Wright and Ron Brace, who was put on injured reserve last week due to an injured elbow.
The Patriots are not playing this week and still have time for their players to get better to play in their first playoff game next week.
