New England Patriots put an end to Tim Tebow’s fame with 45-10 victory – NFL Postseason Recap
The most watched game of this weekend ended in shame and embarrassment for Tim Tebow as Tom Brady and New England Patriots went on to crush the Denver Broncos 45-10, ending all the hype in the media over Tebow, once and for all.
The Patriots’ quarterback in an even better performance than the one that was seen when he played the Broncos weeks back, threw six touchdown passes, equalling the record held for most number of touchdowns in a postseason game.
The Patriots did not commit the same mistakes that the Pittsburgh Steelers made by keeping a close check on Broncos’ Demaryius Thomas, and Eddie Royal, containing the Broncos’ running and passing game.
That has been the main strength of the Broncos in recent games but not this time.
Thomas with just 93 yards on six, receiving was unable to repeat his last game’s impressive performance when he managed 204 yards on four catches.
Royal’s performance proved to be worse with a mere 25 yards on two receiving.
That way the Patriots had the passing game of their opponent contained.
Tebow was nowhere near to his overly exaggerated heroics, completing only 9 of 26 passes for 136 yards without any touchdowns.
The Broncos' quarterback failed to capitalise on the fragile pass defending line-up of the Patriots that ranks as the worst in the American Football Conference (AFC).
The dismal performance of Tim Tebow, no doubt led to the failed offence of the Broncos and cost them the match.
"Any time you're getting beat like that, it doesn't change how you fight. It didn't matter whether it was the first play or the last play or whether we're down by 42. I wanted to be the same player", Tebow said.
Brady on the other hand fared much better than Tebow. Completing 26 of 34 passes for 363 yards, he threw six touchdown passes.
"We came in and started fast and it was a big win for us", said Brady.
Brady said he hoped that the Patriots would perform even better in the next game and gave the credit of winning to the defence and special teams.
It could be possible that the hiring of Josh McDaniels, former St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator, turned out to be a source of help for the Patriots.
Apart from having had a long working relationship with the Patriots and Tom Brady, McDaniels knew Tebow and the Broncos all around due to his stay as the head coach with them.
Rob Gronkowski had 145 yards on 10 receiving scored three touchdowns to help the Patriots surge way ahead of the Broncos.
The Patriots were in hold of the game from the very beginning with two touchdown passes by Brady coming in the first quarter.
One was a seven-yard pass to Wes Welker followed by another 10-yard touchdown pass to Gronkowski less than seven minutes later.
The first Broncos score came in the second quarter after Willis McGahee ran five yards to score a touchdown.
The Patriots responded with three further touchdowns by Brady in the same quarter. Brady ended up throwing five touchdown passes in the first half.
These included a 61-yard pass to Deion Branch and two touchdown passes of 12 yards and 19 yards to Gronkowski.
Gronkowski went for 145 yards on 10 receiving, scoring three times in the game.
"We were playing complementary football, and it was awesome. Obviously, you can't start off the game any better than that", Gronkowski said.
Brady threw his sixth touchdown pass of 17-yards to Aaron Hernandez in the third quarter and all the Broncos could reply with was a field goal of 41-yards by Matt Prater.
Stephen Gostkowski of the Patriots was another player who was part of increasing the Patriots score with a 20 yard field goal.
It is the first time since 2007 that the Patriots have won a postseason contest.
