New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady hates the New York Jets?
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady doesn’t care much for his AFC East division rivals the New York Jets. It would also be safe to say that the feeling is probably mutual for New York. But Brady may have added fuel to the fire when he said that he hated the Jets.
In a Monday morning interview with WEEI's Dennis & Callahan show, Brady was asked if he watched a reality sports documentary television series on HBO titled “Hard Knocks,” where fans are given a rare insight and a behind the scenes look at training camp and how players and coaches alike prepare for the pre-season.
"Honestly, I haven't turned it on. I hate the Jets, so I refuse to support that show," Brady said. "I'm sure it's great TV. I'm glad people are liking it. But that's just something that I have no interest in watching. I'd love to say a lot of mean things, but I'd rather not do that, either."
The show started in 2001 and features a different team each year. The series especially focuses on rookies' adjustments to the NFL, but this year, the spotlight seems to be placed on Rex Ryan and his numerous f-bombs at Jets camp.
Ryan has created an “us against them” mindset for the Jets, which is not uncommon; however, he is publicly trashing other teams in the process to fire up his squad. Some coaches may use this tactic, but usually keep their comments behind closed doors to avoid offending or simply creating bad blood against all the teams in the NFL.
Not Ryan. He’s an open book and what you see is what you get. He is willing to go to war with all the other teams and could care less about what the rest of the league thinks. “They’re doing a lot of things that are making them feel good about themselves. Now the only problem is the other 31 teams aren’t feeling good about them,” said Tony Dungy.
Brady was also asked to comment if he thought that the HBO series would work in New England. "That would be tough," Brady said. "It may have to be (Bill Belichick's) final season of coaching. If you ever hear that he's allowed that to happen, I wouldn't think there'd be another year after that. He hasn't told me. Believe me, I have no inside information on that. But I think Coach Belichick has worked pretty hard over the years to run his practices the right way, his meetings the right way, and I don't think he really wants to give that information away," he added.
