New England Patriots reward TE Rob Gronkowski with new six-year deal – NFL News
During the 2011-12 National Football League (NFL) regular season, New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski announced himself as one of the most explosive players on the field.
The tight end broke multiple records and was a key factor in the Patriots successful campaign last year and if he had been fully fit during the Super Bowl game against the New York Giants the Patriots might just have went on to lift the Lombardi Trophy once
again.
Even though, Gronkowski had time left on his rookie deal, Patriots owner, Robert Kraft did not wish to take any risks with his star player and on Friday both the franchise and the player’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus agreed on a new mega deal for the player.
The Patriots signed the star tight end to a new six-year deal worth $ 53 million with $ 16.5 million in guarantees.
This deal is the biggest ever given to a tight end and goes to show how much the franchise values the 23-year-old.
Gronkowski’s father, Gord Gronkowski spoke to the media after his son signed the new deal and said.
"He broke every record last year and it's just a remarkable story. And you know, there in Arizona, we didn't know if he was going to play anymore when he had his back surgery [in college]. And now, it's a great story. He's out there now and everything's
well and he's ripping it up."
Adding further he said that the mega-deal will not result in any change in his son’s personality and he will remain the same player and person that Patriots fans have fallen in love with.
"No, Rob is Rob. He still to this day will wear jeans that he had in high school, and shirts that he had in high school," he said. "We're not flashy people. And that's Rob all the way. The money, it's nice, don't get me wrong, but it will not change him.
Rob will always be Rob the goofball."
Gronkowski made 90 receptions last season for a gain of 1,327 yards and scored 17 touchdowns, the most by any tight end in the league and set a new single season record.
Fans are expecting Gronkowski to get even better in the future and after this new deal they will continue to get Gronk’d for years to come.
