New England Patriots secure 34-27 win over Washington Redskins – NFL Week 14 Recap
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw an interception in the final quarter only to add spice and thrill to the atmosphere of the game, which his side was able to win in the end against Washington Redskins 34-27 at the
FedEx Field in the week-14 game of the National Football League current season on Sunday.
Patriots had a seven-point lead when their offense initiated a drive. On third down, Brady sent a pass to receiver Tiquan Underwood, who never got the ball as Redskins’ cornerback Josh Wilson intercepted the quarterback’s throw
to prevent the lead from stretching further.
The turnover, however, could not benefit the Redskins as they fail to penetrate the Patriots’ defence. Nevertheless, Brady’s fault was impossible to ignore. The emotions took all over offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien and Brad,
who exchanged angry words with each other after the interception.
“We're both pretty emotional guys so that's what I deserve, you know? If you make bad plays, you are supposed to get yelled at by your coaches. This is not the first time and probably won't be the last. It was just, you can't do
that in that situation and it was just a stupid play by me.
"I made a terrible play, so he just let me know I made a terrible play. It's football man, it's a game of emotion,” Brady said after the game.
Apart from that interception, which was Brady’s first since Nov. 6, things ran smoothly for Patriots. They scored a touchdown in the first quarter to take the lead 7-0. Redskins’ Graham Gano scored a 24-yard field goal to reduce
the deficit 7-3, but the lead was extended as Brady sent a touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski from 11 yards. Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman sent a nine-yard pass to Jabar Gaffney to score a touchdown. The first quarter ended with Patriots in lead 14-10.
Redskins defended well in the second quarter and did not allow any touchdown-move. Patriots scored two field goals in the quarter, whereas their opponents settled for a touchdown and a field goal. At halftime, the scores were levelled
20-20.
In the third quarter, Brady sent a 37-yard pass to Rob Gronkowski to increase the lead 27-20. Redskins equalised when Rex Grossman found David Anderson from six yards. With less than five minutes left in the quarter, Brady found
Wes Welker from 24 yards to take the lead again 34-27. No team could score in the final quarter.
Despite the interception, Brady’s performance in the game was superb. He completed 22 passes of 37 attempts for 357 yards, managing three touchdowns.
This was the 10th victory for the Patriots, who are leading the American Football Conference East division.
Redskins, on the other hand, got their ninth defeat of the season. They are ranked at the bottom of the National Football Conference East division.
