New England Patriots sign WR Brandon Lloyd on three-year deal - NFL News
After a day of will he sign or won’t he, the New England Patriots have finally got their man as they signed free agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
The Patriots signed their fifth free agent with Lloyd as they look to return back to the Super Bowl in the new season and claim a fourth ring under the tenure of current head coach Bill Belichick.
Lloyd moves to Boston, from the St. Louis Rams after a wonderful individual season and is the second receiver signed by the franchise in the current free agency.
The wide receiver, signed a three-year deal with the Patriots worth around $ 12 million according to sources.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, before signing on the dotted line, Lloyd was highly excited to join the Patriots.
"I'm ready for work," Lloyd told CSN New England on Saturday night. "The time for talking is done. I couldn't be more excited."
The news has been welcomed across the Patriots fan base, as the team gear up for the new season and look to put behind their disappointing result in Super XLVI.
Lloyd had a brilliant season with the St. Louis Rams even though the franchise overall struggled for results as they ended the regular season with a poor 2-14 record.
The wide receiver made 51 receptions in the 11 games he started for the Rams for a total of 683 receiving yards.
Lloyd also scored five touchdowns in his only season with the Rams since being released from the Denver Broncos last year.
New England has been pretty busy during the current free agency as they look to improve on their Super Bowl final appearance.
The Patriots were defeated 21-17 in the final to the New York Giants after a heart pounding encounter as quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick once again failed in their attempt to gain a fourth Super Bowl ring.
This was the second defeat of New England at the Super Bowl to the same opponents after they ended up on the losing side in the 2007-08 final.
The Patriots are building up a strong roster for the new season and will once again be favourites to make a serious run towards another Super Bowl title.
