New England Patriots stage comeback to rout Buffalo Bills 49-21 – NFL Recap
The New England Patriots rebounded from a poor start to stage a comeback in their 49-21 victory over the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots now top the AFC East as they look forward to their playoff games.
The game wasn’t different from the earlier ones for the Patriots. It had the Patriots trailing behind their opponents initially after which they staged a brilliant comeback to take over the game. Similar to the ones against the Denver Broncos and the Miami
Dolphins, the Patriots hit back starting from the second quarter after they were left trailing by 21 points.
"I'd love to be able to see what it looks like when we put together 60 great minutes of football. Today was 45, but it was better than 30 last week." Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said.
The Bills took the lead in the very first quarter of the game with amazing three touchdowns much to the surprise of everyone. Tashard Choice ran 4 yards for a touchdown while Fitzpatrick threw in two touchdown passes. One was an 18 yard pass to Steve Johnson
and the second a 15 yard pass to C.J. Spiller. After this top performance, the Bills went into a complete decline as the Patriots staged a comeback in the remaining three quarters.
The first hit by the Patriots was a touchdown by BenJarvus Green-Ellis who ran one yard for the score in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Six minutes later, Tom Brady threw in a 39 yard touchdown pass to Aaron Hernandez to lessen the trail. The
third quarter saw the Patriots take the lead as Stephen Gostkowski went in for two field goals of 47 yards and 20 yards respectively. This was followed by another touchdown as Gostkowski took in a 17 yard pass from Brady enabling the Patriots take the lead
28-21.
The Bills failed to strike back as the Patriots went in for further three scores in the final quarter. BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran 3 yards to score while Brady threw another 7 yard touchdown pass to Gronkowski. The final score came as Sterling Moore ran 21
yards on a return interception.
Fitzpatrick completed 29 of 46 passes for 307 yards for two touchdowns but had four interceptions. Brady on the other hand fared better with 23 of 35 complete passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns while giving in just one interception.
The Bills lost Scott Chandle to a knee injury and Stevie Johnson was benched by Bills coach Chan Gailey after he was penalized for lifting his jersey that revealed an inner T-shirt. The two losses hit the Bills hard.
“It started off so well with 21 points and we had things rolling offensively but when Stevie got taken out and Scott went down it changed things for us. It slowed us down." Fitzpatrick said.
