New England Patriots suffer another blow as Devin McCourty out with shoulder injury – NFL News
In an another blow suffered by the New England Patriots, corner back Devin McCourty had to be evicted off the field after suffering from a shoulder injury in Sunday’s game against the Jets.
Despite the excitement over the win, the Patriots will remain perturbed over the injury sustained by McCourty and would be hoping for an early recovery by the cornerback.
The injury occurred in the second quarter as safety Sterling Moore banged into McCourty with a head to head collision. The safety player was trying to avert a pass from being received by Pats wide receiver Plaxico Burress but ended
up colliding with his own team mate. Both Moore and McCourty were trying to tackle Burress at the same instant.
McCourty was seen to be in great pain and was sidelined from the game. No movement in the right hand of the cornerback was seen as he walked into the locker room with his hand on the shoulder.
Moore was awarded a personal foul for being rough without any reason even though no harm was caused to Burress. Moore was playing his first NFL game and had been called in to replace the injured Patrick Chung a week after his name
was included in the 53-man roster list. Moore talked to McCourty after the game and apologized over the injury caused.
"He'll be all right. He said he's feeling OK, so that's good." Moore said referring to McCourty.
News after the game surfaced that McCourty had no broken bones but had sustained a disjointed right shoulder. McCourty would undergo tests on Monday to determine the nature of the injury. As of now it is unknown as to when the
cornerback will make a return.
McCourty was replaced by cornerback Antwaun Molden for the remainder of the game. In case McCourty is unable to recover soon, the Patriots are likely to use Molden with Kyle Arrington on the opposite and Phillip Adams as a possible
substitution. But missing out McCourty will be another loss for the Patriots.
"You can never replace a guy like Devin, but whoever follows in his shoes has to play on his same level or above," said Andre Carter, defensive end player. "That's just football. It's very unfortunate because Devin is such a great
player, and we have been plagued with injuries. That's something that you hate in this game, but we've just got to stick together, and pull together, and hope for Devin and keep on going."
Earlier before the game began, Ras-I Dowling had to be ruled out to an injury to his hip. Safety Patrick Chung who sustained a right foot injury in the last week’s game against the New York Giants stayed out of the game as well.
Brandon Spikes with a knee injury, Taylor Price with a hamstring and Dane Fletcher with a thumb injury also did not play for the Patriots.
