New England Patriots thump mighty Houston Texans 42-14 in Week 14 – NFL Recap
The New England Patriots seem to look unstoppable as they thrashed the in-form Houston Texans, 42-14, in Week 14 game on Monday Night Football on December, 10, 2012, at Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA.
The game looked like a competition between two teams placed on other ends of the table.
The Patriots (10-3) are now just one game behind the Texans who top the American Football Conference (AFC) playoff standings. The team has already won the AFC East title.
Quarterback Tom Brady again played an influential role in the win. He completed 21 out of 35 passes for 296 passing yards and scored four touchdowns.
Texans (11-2) gave the most dismal performance of the season. They are now two wins ahead of Indianapolis Colts in AFC South.
The offence failed to score even a single point up until the third quarter while the defence gave away a massive 21 points in the first half.
Patriots have the reputation of coming up with splendid performances late in a game and they did just that on Monday as well. According to the Associated Press, Brady said:
"It's a Monday night game. We have played in a lot of big games in December. It needs to come together now, this is the perfect time for it."
The defeat ended Texans’ six-game winning run. The defence was completely dismantled by Brady and company. Texans defensive line was easily perforated by Patriots wide receiving corps. Talking to the media after the game, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said:
"We got our tails kicked. When you've got an opportunity to make a big play, you can't miss it against a team of this magnitude. We turned around and it was 21-0 pretty quick. . . They got after us all night long on all phases, too many penalties, all those
things so, no excuses; they got after us pretty good."
Quarterback Matt Schaub finished with 19 of 32 for 232 yards and failed to score a touchdown. He also threw away an interception during the game.
Patriots got a dominating start to the proceedings. Tom Brady threw a seven-yard pass to tight end Aaron Hernandez for a touchdown.
Brady then went on to throw another touchdown pass, this time a 37-yarder to wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, as the first quarter ended 14-0.
Patriots offence continued their superb run of form in the second quarter as he threw his third touchdown pass of the day to finish the first half with 21-0 lead.
Brady remained unstoppable in the second quarter as the quarterback threw an astounding 63-yard pass to wide receiver Donte Stallworth to get a indomitable 28-0 lead.
Texans finally scored their first points of the game later in the third quarter with a one-yard run by running back Arian Foster.
At the start of the final quarter, Lloyd recovered a fumble in the end zone to score a touchdown, and took the score to 35-7. Then running back Stevan Ridley ran 14 yards to reach the end zone as the score went 42-7.
Texans quarterback back T.J. Yates scored a rushing touchdown with two minutes left as the game ended 14-42.
