Question:

New G.I. bill. Can I qualify ...again?

I served in the military (61 to 64, enlisted) for three years and received an honorable discharge. Several years later (72 -76) I applied for the then current G.I. bill, got my degree, M. Ed. and have now since retired.

So, is the new G.I. bill called "MGIB" now available to both (active servicemen and women)and ("veterans").

My question is...Does this also include those of us (who are "old" vetrans, such as myself) who have used the G.I. bill before and who want to go back and use it again, ...if it's available?

Thanks for any info. you can share.

Just old Ed,

  1. Sorry but under current rules, any GI Bill benefits automatically expire 10 years after you separate.  Given that you separated about 2 generations ago, you'd be excluded on that rule alone.

Aside from that fact, the MGIB only applies to the folks who came on active duty after the post-Vietnam era VEAP years (circa 1984, I don't recall the exact dates) with some allowances made for VEAP participants who may be allowed to upgrade to the MGIB.
