Question:

New Gas Dryer...sound and smell....normal?

History:

We just bought a new gas dryer. Installed it with a new flex gas line kit. According to instructions. Tested it for leaks...there are no bubbles when we turned the gas on, can't smell gas from the lines. All looks good from that point.

There is a dent in the side...which we accepted when they delieverd (getting a discount)

Possible problems - When we turn it on, it just doesn't sound right. Sounds a bit loud, and when we open the door, it smells a bit like gas, but we don't have any leak.

We're thinking this isn't quite right, but just looking for any input about what it might be, or what we should do.

Thanks in advance!

  1. have it checked again . it could be poor combustion or

a venting problem . make sure the serviceman stays from start to finish

  2. A new gas appliance can and usually will smell the first time it is used because of the paint or residue on the new parts in the unit. It may even smoke a litte until this burns off. Run the unit through a couple complete cycles to see if the smell go's away. Be sure to vent a gas dryer to the outside for safety. A slite dent in the side won't hurt. Some dryers are a little noisy because the tub acts like a drum and magnifies the units normal operating noise. If really excessive contact the store where purchased.

  3. Could be a leak inside the unit!

    Nothing to play with.

Get who ever sold it to you to check it out!

    DO NOT USE IT!

  4. It might be an inside leak or it could be residue gas from when it fires up(if in a room with no ventilation.I would watch the burners when it was being fired up/turned on.To see that there is NO!!! yellow in the flame. If any yellow or orange then you have a dirt/burner adjustment problem

  5. We have a gas dryer that we just bought. The only smell coming out of your dryer when you first use it is a little like burnt rubber. Not gas. It sounds like you may have an internal gas leak. I would highly recommend that you have someone come out and look at it. It should still be under warranty if you just bought it.

  6. If I were you, I'd call someone who installs gas dryers and have them check your work. I'd NEVER install one DIY. At-home gas installation isn't something to mess around with.
