New Green Bay Packers Centre Jeff Saturday says Packers wanted him more than Denver Broncos - NFL News
When Peyton Manning was released by the Indianapolis Colts it was almost assured that wherever he ended up, the quarterback would be followed by his good friend and Colts’ teammate Jeff Saturday.
Manning ended up at the Denver Broncos who signed him up on a new deal worth $ 96 million, however, Saturday who became a free agent signed up with the Green Bay Packers.
The Centre joined Green Bay on Friday, after signing a deal worth $ 7.75 million with four million dollars guaranteed in his first year with the franchise.
After making the deal, the Centre had only one thing on his mind, telling Manning of his decision of not joining him in the Mile High City.
Talking to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Saturday told the newspaper that he joined Green Bay only because they seemed to be more serious in bringing him onboard and said that he had let the new Broncos quarterback know of his decision.
"I told him I don't think the Broncos wanted me as much as he did. They've got things going on that they're happy with and are moving forward with and I didn't think it was an exact fit. I always felt like in Green Bay I was their very first choice."
Saturday, like Manning has been a Colts player throughout his 13 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) and just like his good friend left the franchise after Manning was released as he refused a one year extension to his contract to test free agency.
The Broncos were looking to unite Saturday and Manning at the franchise but Green Bay showed the more desire to sign the veteran centre with coach Mike McCarthy taking him out to dinner where both developed a bond.
The centre said about joining the Packers.
"They have a great offensive line and some really good, young players. They won 15 games last year; it's not like I have to add a lot to it. But I think I can offer leadership, and being a veteran, I can help the offensive line blossom into players they
want to be."
Saturday had been a stalwart of the Colts line-up since joining the franchise and started 188 games for the Colts.
